An employee was assisting with unloading structural steel that a crane was picking up from a delivery truck and placing onto the ground. The employee's right hand was on a column base plate and a steel beam was next to it. The load shifted and severed his right thumb between the first and second knuckles. The employee sustained the amputation of his right thumb.
