An employee was cleaning the bed of a dump truck and had the bed lifted and the tailgate propped open on a block of wood. When finished, they manually closed the tailgate and when the wood block was removed the tailgate fell on their left hand, resulting in surgical amputation of the index fingertip to the first knuckle.
