Incident Narrative

An employee was re-spooling cable on a winch. At the operator console, the employee engaged the winch and set the swing line speed as slow as possible. Then he walked onto the dredge deck to guide the cable. The employee's right hand became trapped between the cable and the drum of the winch resulting in amputation of the end joint of the right little finger. The injury required a further medical amputation.
