Incident Narrative

An employee was repairing a leak on a cooling water line to a starch drying drum (the cooling water line is used to supply cooling water to a hot applicator roll). The employee had isolated the cooling water supply and cooling water return valves. When he loosened the compression fitting for the cooling water line, hot water came out of the line and burned the employee's arms, chest, neck, and face. While trying to get away from the hot water, the employee also injured his knee.
