Incident Narrative
On January 31, 2020, at approximately 7:35 AM, the injured employee was inspecting carcasses for contamination on the pre-final rail while another employee was operating a handheld skinner on the opposite side of the carcass. The employee using the handheld skinner started to remove hair on the right side of the carcass at the same time that the injured employee reached to turn the carcass with the left hand. As the carcass was turned, the injured employee's left hand hit against the skinner, resulting in an amputation of the left 5th fingertip down to the first knuckle and a laceration to the left 4th fingertip.
