An associate was cleaning and sanitizing a cutter, which housed motor-driven blades used to cut the product created by an extruder. The employee's left thumb contacted the cutter blades, resulting in an inch-long laceration to the back inner side of the left thumb that in turn caused a partial amputation of the thumb.
