Incident Narrative
An employee was attempting to clean the drain underneath a garbage disposal. The employee had treated the drain with bleach earlier in the shift to eliminate smells and kill fruit flies. When the smell persisted, the employee attempted to treat the drain with a different chemical. This caused a chemical reaction that produced gas. The employee became ill and dizzy, requiring hospitalization for inhalation/exposure to chlorine gas.
