Incident Narrative
On 11/3/2017, an employee was responding to a call about a leaking pipe in the hot wash area of the harvest floor. He suspected a pump and a leaking 2" stainless pipe as being the cause of the leak. He took the pump apart to repair it, then reattached the pipe clamp to the pipe. Two other employees held the pipe in place for it to be reattached. Once the pipe was in place, one of the other employees went over to the panel and found that the water was still on; only the pump was turned off. When the pump was turned on, the sanitary fitting broke and hot water with a temperature of approximately 170 degrees sprayed the employee s arms, legs, and stomach. He received first and second degree burns on his arms and legs.
