Incident Narrative

An employee was loading sticks of material into a multi-saw when a stick became jammed as it was being fed it into the saw blade area. She opened a side door hatch to access the feed compartment and used her fingers to try and adjust the jammed stick. The machine s pneumatic feeding system pushed air into the material feed compartment, which then pushed the stick and the employee s left index finger into the rotating saw blades. Her left index finger was amputated just below the first knuckle.
