Incident Narrative

An employee was performing maintenance on two auger conveyors when the conveyor cover fell off and struck a pot of hot fat, which had a magnetic cover, 4 to 5 feet below the employee. The metal band/lock around the magnetic cover broke, allowing the pressurized fat to spray out and contact the employee, who received second and third degree burns, primarily on the lower legs.
