Incident Narrative

An employee was inside an open-top trailer using a pendant-operated crane to load packages of extrusions. A load weighing approximately 700 pounds, and measuring approximately 24-feet-long by 2.5-feet-wide, was being moved with straps and loaded onto an existing stack of materials. The employee was positioned between the load and another stack of materials. The employee was unhooking the load when the extrusions inside the package shifted and caused the newly set load to slide and trap the employee between the bundles. The employee suffered spinal fractures, two broken ribs, and a left pneumothorax injury.
