An employee was welding a piece of metal (mid-rail) on a platform near a moving conveyor. While he was attempting to get his tools, the tip of his left-hand thumb got caught between the sprocket and chain on the conveyor. When he removed his glove, the tip of his left-hand thumb was amputated. He was hospitalized overnight.
