Incident Narrative
Worker climbed a mobile ladder-platform; he then climbed over the ladder-platform guardrails onto a chain-driven paddle conveyor. He was trying to reach a gasket on a pipe feeding the conveyor. He was wearing a hard hat, but was not wearing personal fall-arrest equipment. As he tried to reach for the pipe gasket, he lost his balance and fell more than 11 feet to the concrete floor below, landing on his back along with the pipe. He was taken by ambulance to Northwest MS Medical Center-Greenville where he underwent surgery to remove his ruptured spleen. He was then transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with the following additional injuries: fractured pelvis, fractured ribs, fractured shoulder blades, etc.
