What's wrong
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain replacement tie rods equipped with USK ball studs, part numbers A-13102E4737 and A-13102E4738. The tie rod assemblies may contain ball studs that have been incorrectly heat-treated, which can cause them to break, and possibly result in tie rod failure.
Consequence
Tie rod failure can cause a loss of vehicle steering control and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the tie rods as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0470.
