SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
Issued by ZF North America, Inc. · Reported Feb 9, 2024 · 2,493 vehicles affected
What's wrong
ZF North America, Inc. (ZF) is recalling certain park brake actuation air brake systems equipped with Haldex inversion relay valves, part numbers 9718990020 and RKN28032. An internal piston in the inversion valve may fail, delaying the engagement of the parking brake. As such, these valves fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."
Consequence
Delayed parking brake engagement can result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
ZF will replace aftermarket equipment, free of charge. Affected vehicle manufacturers will determine the appropriate remedy for their vehicles. Owner notification letters were mailed April 9, 2024. Owners may contact ZF customer service at 1-734-416-6200.
