NHTSA Campaign 21V262000
POWER TRAIN
Issued by PACCAR Incorporated · Reported Apr 13, 2021 · 53 vehicles affected
What's wrong
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2022 Kenworth T440, T470, T800, and W900 vehicles. The starter interrupt may allow the vehicle to start when the transmission is not in PARK. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 102, "Transmission shift position sequence, starter interlock, and transmission braking effect."
Consequence
Starting the vehicle when the transmission is not in PARK may cause unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Paccar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and reconnect the transmission and chassis harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 26, 2021. Owners may contact PACCAR customer service at 1-425-828-5888. PACCAR's number for this recall is 21KWB.
