NHTSA Campaign 16V661000

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Issued by Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) · Reported Sep 14, 2016 · 17,643 vehicles affected

What's wrong

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Grom 125 motorcycles manufactured June 12, 2013, to September 8, 2015, and 2014-2015 NSS300 & NSS300A motorcycles manufactured June 18, 2013 to March 19, 2015. The resin bracket inside the fuel pump of the affected motorcycles may swell and cause the pump impeller to seize.

Consequence

If the fuel pump seizes, the motorcycle will stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly with one that uses a metal bracket internally, free of charge. The recall began October 2016. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KC3 and KC4. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V-672. Some, but not all, motorcycles that were remedied under that campaign are affected by this recall as well and need to have the fuel pump replaced again.
