POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION
IN THE TRANSMISSION ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE SECOND/THIRD PINION GEAR MAY BE INCORRECTLY MACHINED WHICH COULD CAUSE ABNORMAL WEAR THAT EVENTUALLY RESULTS IN A BROKEN RETAINER CIRCLIP.
Remedy: YAMAHA WILL REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION GEARS AND SHAFTS WITH NEW ONES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-88-YAMAHA OR VISIT THEIR WEBSITE AT WWW.YAMAHA-MOTOR.COM.

CONSUMER RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL# 03V309000 CONCERNING TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN JANUARY 2004. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER, WHO DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS. DEALER WAS CONTACTED ON 3/9/2004, AND STILL DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS. *AK

YAMAHA RECALL FOR THE XV16 0N 08/22/03 THAT IS ON YOUR WEB SITE. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM YAMAHE ON THE 01/09/04. YAMAHA STILL DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO CONDUCT THE DEFECT REPAIR. THIS BIKE WAS SOLD TO ME BY RIVA SOUTH DEALER IN NOVEMBER 2003. IF THE BIKE WAS ON RECALL THE DEALER SOLD ME A DEFECTIVE VEHICULE. THIS IS A BAD SITUATION SINCE YAMAHA IS NOT DELIVERING THE REQUIRED PARTS TO THEIR DEALERS IN A TIMELY MANNER. WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS? THE BIKE HAD A BROKEN RETAINING CIRCLIP WHICH CAN CAUSE THE REAR WHEEL TO LOCK UP. THIS CAN CAUSE A CRASH. THIS VEHICLE IS ON RE-CALL BUT THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT SCHEDULING REPAIRS UNTIL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AND WILL NOT NOTIFY CONSUMERS. *JB *SC

THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER CONCERNING A RECALL FOR A MOTORCYCLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT PARTS FOR THE CYCLE ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE CYCLES THAT WERE BOUGH AT HIS DEALERSHIP WILL GET THEIR CYCLES REPAIRED FIRST. THE DEALER SET AN APPOINTMENT WHICH IS FIVE WEEKS AWAY.
