IN THE TRANSMISSION ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE SECOND/THIRD PINION GEAR MAY BE INCORRECTLY MACHINED WHICH COULD CAUSE ABNORMAL WEAR THAT EVENTUALLY RESULTS IN A BROKEN RETAINER CIRCLIP.
Remedy: YAMAHA WILL REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION GEARS AND SHAFTS WITH NEW ONES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-88-YAMAHA OR VISIT THEIR WEBSITE AT WWW.YAMAHA-MOTOR.COM.

THE FUEL FILTER ASSEMBLY TO THE FRONT OF THE TANK WILL RELEASE THE INNER SLEEVE AT THE ELBOW SPILLING FUEL ALL OVER MOTOR. IF MOTOR IS HOT, CAN RESULT IN FIRE AND HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST. I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE JUST STARTED RIDING WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 YAMAHA ROAD STAR WARRIOR MOTORCYCLE. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE NEEDLE ON THE GAUGE BEGAN SWINGING BACK AND FORTH, THEN THE MOTORCYCLE SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE MOTORCYCLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE STARTER WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE CONTACT WAS ONLY ABLE TO RESTART THE MOTORCYCLE BY USING A PORTABLE BATTERY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15000.

I HAVE A YAMAHA ROADSTAR WARRIOR MOTORCYCLE AND THE RECALL (ID# 45939 - FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING) WAS PERFORMED. THIS WAS TO PREVENT THE TANK FROM CRACKING AT THE MOUNTING BRACKET. MY TANK IS NOW LEAKING GAS FROM THAT MOUNTING BRACKET. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY CALLED YAMAHA USA AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT EITHER THE RECALL DID NOT WORK OR THAT THE TANK STARTED TO CRACK BEFORE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND FINALLY GREW BIG ENOUGH TO START LEAKING GAS. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM YAMAHA MOTOR CORP. AROUND THE FEB. 1ST. STATING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN MY ROAD STAR WARRIOR. THE NOTICE SAID THAT I SHOULD NOT RIDE THE MOTORCYCLE AND SHOULD CONTACT MY DEALER TO GET THE BIKE FIXED. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE PARTS TO REPAIR THE BIKE WERE NOT AVAILABLE YET AND DID NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO GET THE PARTS. THLIS HAS BEEN ABOUT A MONTH AND ONE HALF SO FAR AND STILL NO IDEA WHEN THE BIKE CAN BE REPAIRED. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT A CONSUMER SHOULD BE TREATED IN THIS MANNER. I PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THIS PRODUCT AND HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO USE IT AND YAMAHA DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE. I HAVE CALLED THEM AND THEY SEEM VERY IRRITATED THAT SOMEONE IS CALLING AND QUESTIONING THEM.

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM YAMAHA REGARDING MY 2002 WARRIOR THE FIRST PART OF FEBRUARY. THE RECALL WAS BASED ON CERTAIN TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS. I PURCHASED MY MOTORCYCLE 10/31/03 AND BECAUSE OF WINTER RIDING CONDITIONS I WAS NOT ABLE TO RIDE AS MUCH AS I LIKE. HOWEVER, MY MOTORCYCLE HAS 350 MILES ON IT. I TOOK MY MOTORCYCLE TO THE COMPANY I PURCHASED FROM, SAN LUIS MOTOR SPORTS, SAN LUIS OPISBO, CA. THIS OCCURED JANUARY 24 AS THE TRANSMISSION WAS MAKING AN ODD NOISE. I HAULED THE MOTORCYCLE IN THE BACK OF A TRUCK 150 MILES ONE WAY, LEFT THE MOTORCYLE AT THE DEALERSHIP. DROVE HOME FOR ANOTHER 150 MILES. DROVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON JANUARY 31 TO GET THE MOTORCYCLE AS THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AT THIS POINT I HAVE DRIVEN 300 MILES. ON FEBRUARY 7, 2004 I AGAING HAULED MY BIKE TO SAN LUIS MOTOR SPORTS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID NOT KNOW HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO REPAIR MY MOTORCYCLE AS THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY PARTS TO REPLACE WITH. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD CALL ONCE A WEEK TO GIVE ME AN UPDATE. MEANWHILE, WHEN THE FIRST REPLACEMENT PART ARRIVED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PUT THAT PART ON A NEW FLOOR MODEL MOTORCYCLE. I HAVE CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS TOLD SOMEONE WOULD GET BACK TO ME. I HAVE CALLED THE YAHAMA CORPORATION AND WAS TOLD MY MOTORCYCLE WOULD BE THE FIRST TO BE REPAIRED. IT IS NOW MARCH 14, 2004 I AM PAYING FOR "A DEAD HORSE" PAYING INSURANCE FOR SAID "DEAD HORSE" AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMPENSATION FOR THE 600 MILES I HAVE DRIVEN TO GET MY MOTORCYCLE REPAIRED. HOW LONG MUST I WAIT BEFORE GETTING THE QUALITY RESULTS THAT I AM ENTITLED TO? YAMAHA ANNOUNCED A RECALL ON MY 2002 ROADSTAR WARRIOR'S TRANSMISSION AND, IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THEY ARE MAKING LITTLE EFFORT TO DISTRIBUTE THE KITS TO FIX THEM. MY DEALER RECENTLY RECEIVED ONE KIT AND THAT'S IT. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAVE DISTRIBUTED NUMEROUS KITS TO CANADA WHERE PEOPLE CAN'T EVEN BEGIN RIDING FOR OVER ANOTHER MONTH! MY MOTORCYCLE IS MY PRIMARY VEHICLE AND, THE RECALL STATES I SHOULD NOT RIDE IT UNTIL THE RECALL IS DONE. SO, WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WHILE YAMAHA TAKES MONTHS TO GET THE KITS OUT???? I OWN A 2002 YAMAHA ROADSTAR WARRIOR WHICH IS INVOLVED IN A RECALL WHICH I HAVE NOT RECIEVED A LETTEROR PHONE CALL FROM YAMAHA OR MY LOCAL DEALER I ONLY FOUND OUT AFTER I CALLED. THE THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD NO IDEA WHEN YAMAHA WAS SENDING THE PARTS SO THEY PUT ME ON A WAITING LIST. THE LACK OF COMUNICATION IS UNACCEPTABLE WHEN MY SAFTY IS INVOLVED. NOW THEY SAY WHEN THEY FIX THE BIKE THE LABOR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THE PARTS ARE FOR90 DAYS. THEN I HAVE TO BREAK THE BIKE IN FOR 600 MILES AGAIN AND HAVE THE FIRST SERVICE DONE AGAIN AT MY COST (APPROX $300). I BOUGHT THIS BIKE LAST SUMMER AND ONLY HAVE 1100 MILES ON IT. NOW THE REMAINING PORTION OF MY WARRANTY IS RUNNING OUT WHILE MY BIKE SITS IN MY GARAGE BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. SEEING HOW THEY ARE REBUILDING THE MOTOR I THINK THE NORMAL 1 YEAR WARRANTY SOULD BE GIVIN WITH THE REPAIR. ALSO I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FIRST SERVICE AFTER THEY FIXED IT I PAID THAT ONCE ALREADY THEN LAST THE COMMUNICATION IS HORRIBLE IF DIDN'T HAVE FRIEND WITH THE SAME BIKE MY FAMILY MAY HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL AFTER MY REAR TIRE LOCKED UP ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 75 MPH CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL CROSS THE MEDIAN AND GET HIT MY A SEMI- TRUCK HEAD ON AND DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAMAHA MOTOR CORP. HAS PERFORMED A RECALL ON ALL 02-04 ROADSTAR WARRIOR MOTORCYCLES. THEY HAVE ADVISED THEIR CUSTOMERS NOT TO RIDE THEM, AS THE TRANSMISSION COULD SEIZE, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE DEATH. HOWEVER, THEY ARE OFFERING ONLY A LIMITED 90 DAY WARRANTY ON PARTS AND SERVICE AND ARE MAKING ALL OF THEIR FAITHFUL CUSTOMERS WAIT UPWARDS OF SIX MONTHS TO PERFORM THE RECALL. MEANWHILE, US CUSTOMERS ARE STILL MAKING OUR PAYMENTS, PAYING OUR INSURANCE, AND WILL ALSO HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER INITIAL 600 MILE SERVICE PERFORMED AFTER THE RECALL WORK IS DONE ($250) AS THE RESULT IS, IN ESSENCE, A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. THIS IS HORRIBLY WRONG THE WAY THAT YAMAHA IS HANDLING THIS. WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT? *JB

I HAVE RECIEVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM YAMAHA CONCERNING A DEFECTIVE CLIP IN THE TRANSMISSION WHICH COULD BREAK RESULTING IN A REAR WHEEL LOCK UP. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY YAMAHA IS ENACTING SUCH A RECALL YET, ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL DEALER, IS NOT PRODUCING THE PARTS TO FIX SUCH A PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD DURING A PHONE CALL TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER IN CYPRESS, CA THAT ALL CUSTOMERS WOULD BE HANDLED ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS AND AT NO TIME WOULD THESE PARTS BE AVAILABLE TO OWNERS UNTIL THE RECALL IS COMPLETE. SO THAT MEANS THAT YAMAHA IS BASICALLY TELLING MORE THAN HALF A MILLION CUSTOMERS F@$K YOU, WE'LL FIX YOUR BIKES WHEN WE WANT TO WITH NO WARRANTIES ON THE LABOR REQUIRED TO COMPLETELY TEAR DOWN THE MOTOR TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE 50 CENT CLIP.

I AM CURRENTLY LOOKING INTO SEVERAL OPTIONS WITH REGARD TO "DECEPTIVE TRADES PRACTICES ACT", AND WILL BE TALKING TO MY LAWYER VERY SOON. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON MY YAMAHA ROADSTAR WARRIOR SINCE AUG 22, 2003 FOR THE TRANSMISSION. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY INFORMATION FROM YAMAHA UNTIL LATE JANUARY 2004 ABOUT THIS RECALL. IN THE RECALL NOTICE IT STATES THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE OPERATED BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD RESULT IN INURY OR DEATH. THIS VEHICLE IS MY MAIN MODE OF TRANSPORATION. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER THAT SOLD ME THIS VEHICLE (I PURCHASED IT NEW) AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT AS OF THE END OF FEBRUARY 2004 THAT YAMAHA HAS NOT YET SHIPPED ANY PARTS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT I AM 17TH ON THE LIST OT HAVE MY VEHICLE FIXED AND THAT IT WILL TAKE AT LEAST 2 MONTHS FROM THE TIME THEY GET THE PARTS UNTIL THEY CAN ACTUALLY DO THE WORK TO FIX THE VEHICLE. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT A LOANER VEHICLE UNTIL THE FIX CAN BE COMPLETED. THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD BE UP TO YAMAHA CORPORATE TO SUPPLY ANY LOANER VEHICLES. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT YAMAHA CORPORATE BY PHONE AND I HAVE ALWAYS GOTTEN A BUSY SIGNAL.*AK

YAMAHA ROADSTAR GAS TANK WASHER AND TRANSMISSION RECALLS. I PURCHASED MY MOTORCYCLE IN JUNE 2003. I LATER FOUND OUT ABOUT A RECALL TO THE GAS TANK WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF ON MY BIKE BEFORE SALE. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE TO THIS DATE. *AK MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT HOWEVER IS THAT APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS BIKE FOR TRANSMISSION BACK IN AUGUST 2003. I GOT A LETTER IN FEBRUARY 2004. THIS MAJOR WORK IS TO BE DONE AT A DEALERSHIP. NO WARRANTY HAS BEEN OFFERED. NO PARTS TO REPAIR ARE AVAILABLE TILL MARCH/APRIL.
