Irbit Motorworks of America, Inc. (Irbit) is recalling certain model year 2012 Ural Gear-up, Patrol, Patrol T, Tourist, and Tourist T motorcycles with sidecars produced June 2, 2012, through October 25, 2012. The aluminum rims manufactured in April 2012 were improperly heat treated which could result in cracked, split or broken rims.
Remedy: Irbit will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the motorcycles and replace any aluminum rims manufactured in April 2012, free of charge. The recall began on November 2013. Owners may contact Irbit Motorworks at 1-425-702-8484.

The contact owns a 2012 Ural Tourist. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V431000 (Wheels); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while riding at 55 MPH, the rear wheel started wobbling. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, and the contact replaced the wheel with the spare. The contact stated that the failure recurred while riding, but the rear wheel was not replaced because the part was not available. The local dealer was contacted several times and informed the contact that the part to do the recall repair was not available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 9,320. VIN tool search not available.

Cracked wheels. They have been recalled but have waited over 18 months and dealer has no idea when they will fix under recall program.

In 2015 purchased this used 2012 Ural GearUp (Yamal edition) from GOAz Motorcycles in Scottsdale, AZ. To date I have received no written notice from GOAz or Irbit of the safety recall related to cracking/defective rims. I only learned of this 2 days ago through a newsletter E-Mail from Ural USA. These rims have been the subject of two NHTSA recalls: [XXX] (2013) and [XXX] (2022). When I had new tires put on the bike last month I noticed the rim on the sidecar wheel had hairline cracks throughout the inner diameter and one of the spoke bays had begun to pull apart from the rim (see photos). I had the spare wheel, whose rim appears intact, mounted to the sidecar. I inspected the rims on the pusher and front wheels -- they also appear intact. My main concern is getting these defective rims replaced, but I am also concerned that Ural never notified me of this problem. If I had not noticed the cracks on the sidecar wheel rim and switched it out with the spare wheel losing that wheel at 60 MPH could have been fatal.
