Engine Failure According to Chevrolet dealership my engine needed to be replace due to tapping coming from the engine. In addition, they found lifter damage along with the camshaft. Foot pedal parking brake stopped holding it's position. Pedal will move up and down, and parking brake light remains illuminated, but the system is not actually holding pressure on the parking brakes. Failure is caused by a small plastic piece that is used against metal components in the parking bra... ke assembly and eventually breaks. This can cause the vehicle to roll unintentionally and increase the risk of an accident. This issue has already been reported for the same vehicle as mine under NHTSA Campaign Number: 11113016 and I suspect it has been reported under additional models and years as well since it is a commonly reported issue on internet forums, yet no investigation or recall has been performed. The only remedy is to purchase a new parking brake assembly from Ford for more than $300, plus labor. Ford will continue to profit from the issue which is why the NHTSA needs to assist before (more) deaths and property damage occur.Read more

NOTE: This is an RV built by Thor Motorhomes on a Ford Transit chassis. I believe the issue is caused by Thor. There is a sticker on the window of the side sliding door that gives instructions for unlocking the door (from the inside) in case of an emergency. The sticker states: "WARNING IN AN EMER... GENCY, PULL THE LATCH TWICE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR". The instructions do not work. The sticker should only have been used on RV's on a Ram Promaster chassis as that is a standard function of that van. The Ford Transit does not have that feature. An employee at Thor acknowledged to me that the sticker was placed in error. I know that it was placed on at least one other (and possible many other) Ford based RVs. There has been nothing sent out to owners to warn them of this issue. In the event of a fire or accident this could delay or prevent a passenger from being able to exit the vehicle. The door can be unlocked manually so there is nothing that needs repair - people just need to be warned that the posted instructions are wrong.Read more
