MOTION PRO IS RECALLING 10,000 AFTERMARKET BRAKE LEVERS, MODEL NO. 14-0415, SOLD FOR USE ON CERTAIN MY 1999 THROUGH 2008 SUZUKI AND MY 1998 THROUGH 2003 YAMAHA MOTORCYCLES. THE LOBE HEIGHT ON SOME OF THESE LEVERS ARE SMALLER AND DO NOT PROPERLY ENGAGE THE STOMP LAMP SWITCH WHICH WILL NOT DEACTIVATE WHEN THE DRIVER RELEASES THE BRAKE LEVER. THE LEVER CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE MARKING "JY 378" AT THE BASE OF THE LEVER NEAR THE PIVOT BUSHING.
Remedy: MOTION PRO WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND PROVIDE A FREE REMEDY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MOTION PRO AT 1-877-438-7831.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE MOTORCYCLE CRANKCASE DESIGN ALLOWS THE CREATION OF AIR POCKETS NEAR THE OIL PUMP INLET DUE TO SLOSHING OF THE OIL IN THE CRANKCASE. IF THE OIL PUMP DRAWS AIR, INADEQUATE LUBRICATION TO THE ENGINE OCCURS, CAUSING SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE AND RESULTING IN ENGINE FAILURE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN OIL PLATE TO PREVENT THE CREATION OF AIR POCKETS IN THE AREA OF THE OIL PUMP INLET.

STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS Apr 3, 2006
FRAME AT WELD NEAR FRONT FORK HAS CRACK, I AM AFRAID TO RIDE IT DUE TO THE DEFECT AND IF IT LETS GO AT THE WELD. SEVERAL MOTORCYCLE SHOPS HAVE LOOKED AT THE CRACK AND ALL STATE THEY BELIEVE IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, AND HAVE NOT SEEN WELDS CRACK LIKE THIS. I ALSO SPOKE TO A SUZUKI FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE WHO SAID HE NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS, AND I SHOULD TAKE THE BIKE TO A WELDER FOR REPAIR,BUT ALSO OFFERED NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH AMERICAN SUZUKI ALSO AND I AM AWAITING A CALL-BACK. *JB

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 00V009/SUZUKI RECALL NUMBER 2041 MANUFACTURER CLAIMS RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED BUT COULD NOT VERIFY AFTER INSPECTING VEHICLE AND HAS NOT CONTACTED CONSUMER. ENGINE HAS FAILED DUE TO THIS DEFECT AFTER ONLY 4600 MILES. ENGINE WILL HAVE TO BE RE-BUILT, BUT MANUFACTURER DECLINED TO AUTHORIZE REPAIR. CURRENTLY, REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN PERFORMED AND VEHICLE IS UNUSABLE. *LA

SUSPENSION IS "LIMP" MEANING IT TOPS AND BOTTOMS. THERE IS NO REBOUND DAMPENING IN SUSPENSION SYSTEM OF THIS MOTORCYCLE. DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN WILLING TO ASSIST CONSUMER. HOWEVER, MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST FINANCIALLY FOR THIS DESIGN PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATES THE FRONT AND REAR SHOCKSARE CHEAP. *SLC
