SERVICE BRAKES
Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2004-2013 GSX-R600 and GSX-R750, and model year 2005-2013 GSX-R1000 motorcycles. In combination with older brake fluid, corrosion of the brake piston inside of the front brake master cylinder generates gas that may result in a reduction of fluid pressure transmission to the front brake.
Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder, free of charge. The recall began on November 18, 2013. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-800-572-1490. Suzuki's campaign numbers for this recall are: 2A (31, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36).

I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS SOONER THAN NOW. I ALMOST LOST MY HUSBAND DUE TO A CRASH CAUSED FROM THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONING. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT SOMEONE WE KNEW WAS ALSO PRESENT AND CALLED ME. IF NOT MY HUSBAND PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE HERE TODAY. HE OBTAINED MULTIPLE FRACTURES, ROAD RASH FROM HEAD TO TOE, CHUNKS OF HIS SKIN WERE MISSING AND CRACKED HIS HEAD OPEN. THE MOTORCYCLE ITSELF WAS TOTALLED AND IN A NUMBER OF PIECES. MY HUSBAND SPENT DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL AND MANY MORE AT HOME RECOVERING. BUT IT ENDED UP CAUSING HIM HIS JOB AND TODAY STILL HAS SOME ISSUES MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY.

RIDING HOME AFTER WORK ON BACK HIGHWAY AND LOST ALL POWER TO BIKE. REAR TIRE LOCKED UP A BIT, SO HAD TO PULL CLUTCH AND CUT ACROSS THE HIGHWAY TO PARK ON THE SHOULDER. POWER LOSS WAS INSTANT AND IF CARS WERE BEHIND ME, IT LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. POWER LOSS WAS COMPLETE, SO I HAD NO BRAKE LIGHTS OR BLINKERS. THE MASTER FUSE BLEW DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE REGULATOR RECTIFIER. THE SHOP I TOOK IT TO THOUGHT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE ISSUE, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE POSSIBLY 2007 MAY HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, WHICH USES THE SAME REGULATOR. $382 TO FIX SOMETHING THAT SOUNDS FAIRLY COMMON AND JUST AS DANGEROUS AS MOST THE RECALLS I'VE SEEN LATELY FOR GM, ETC. I WAS RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE ON A 2 LANE ROAD, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN AS I WAS RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE JUST TURNED OFF. WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS OR ANYTHING. I WAS REAL CLOSE TO GETTING HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND ME WHEN MY BIKE SHUT OFF. LUCKILY THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME BEFORE HITTING ME. AS READING ONLINE THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME MODEL BIKE AND YEAR. THIS ISSUE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A SHOP TO DETERMINE WHAT HAPPENED, THAT WHEN I WAS TOLD THAT THE STATOR REGULATOR AND RECTIFIER WAS GONE BAD. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE SEEM MANY CASES LIKE THIS AND SUZUKI SHOULD FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE A LIFE IS TAKEN. STARTED UP THE BIKE AND IT FELT KIND OF SLUGGISH. RODE ABOUT 10 MILES AND THE BIKE CUT OFF ON ME AND ALL I COULD SMELL WAS BURNING ELECTRONICS AND THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE RECTIFIER THAT WAS ON FIRE. I QUICKLY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FROM THE BIKE AND WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK TO COME. I KNOW THERE IS RECALLS ON LATER MODEL SUZUKIS WITH THE RECTIFIER, BUT WHY NOT THE 06 TO 07S? I'M ASSUMING THAT SUZUKI USES THE SAME VOLTAGE REGULATOR REGARDLESS OF THE YEARS. MY MOTORCYCLE COULD HAVE GONE UP IN FLAMES. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE AT NIGHT AND MY MOTORCYCLE LOST ALL POWER, THERE WAS NO WARNING OR ANYTHING JUST DIED. IF THERE WOULD OF BEEN ANOTHER VEHICLE BEHIND ME THEN I COULD OF EASILY BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND I COULD SMELL SOMETHING HOT IN THE FRONT OF THE BIKE. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED HOME. I STARTED RESEARCHING IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS ISSUE AND FOUND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS THE RECTIFIER / REGULATOR TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE BIKE, IT GETS HOT AND BURNS UP. THIS ALSO CAUSES THE 30 AMP FUSE TO BLOW FOR THE THE WIRING FOR THE BATTERY. I SEE THERE HAS BEEN RECALLS FOR THE 2008-2011 MODEL YEARS BUT I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THE 2006 AND 2007 YEARS AS WELL, BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THESE YEARS ALSO. *JS

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUZUKI GSX-R600 MOTORCYCLE. WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC THE MOTORCYCLE BATTERY OVERHEATED CAUSING THE MOTORCYCLE TO STALL. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V108000 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ALTERNATOR GENERATOR REGULATOR. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILES WERE 8,000.

MY PROBLEM CONSISTS OF A JERKISH FEELING FROM DE-ACCELERATE TO ACCELERATION. WHEN THE WHEEL SLOWS ENOUGH THAT THE ECU CALLS FOR FUEL IT DELIVERS A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL AND THE BIKE JERKS FORWARD UNLOADING THE FRONT WHEEL CAUSING AN UNRECOVERABLE FRONT WHEEL SLIDE (WHILE LEANED OVER IN A TURN). THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF WORKING ON THE PROBLEM, WE HAVE DISCOVERED WAYS TO MASK THE PROBLEM BUT NO RESOLUTION TO DATE. I PURCHASED IT NEW AND IT NOW HAS OVER 6000 MILES. THE TRANSITION FROM OFF THROTTLE TO SLIGHTLY ON THROTTLE OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND IS EXTREMELY JERKY. IT IS VERY ANNOYING. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR MOST OF THE TIME THAT I HAVE OWNED THE BIKE. I AM A VERY EXPERIENCED RIDER, STREET AND TRACK, (10 YEARS AND 160,000 MILES) AND HAVE OWNED SEVERAL OTHER BIKES, BUT ON THIS BIKE, THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO WITH MY THROTTLE HAND TO TRANSITION SMOOTHLY FROM OFF THROTTLE TO SLIGHTLY ON THROTTLE. WHEN GOING STRAIGHT, I CAN BE DECELERATING OR ACCELERATING, BUT I CAN NOT HOLD A CONSTANT SPEED - I HAVE TO ALTERNATE BETWEEN ON AND OFF THROTTLE AND EACH TRANSITION INVOLVES A BIG JERK. SMOOTH THROTTLE OPERATION IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF PROPER STABILITY OF A MOTORCYCLE DURING CORNERING. THE TRANSITION FROM OFF THROTTLE TO SLIGHTLY ON THROTTLE WHILE LEANED OVER IS SO JERKY THAT IT CREATES A MAJOR MID-CORNER DISTRACTION AND IS VERY UNSETTLING. THE PROBLEM OCCURS IN ALL GEARS AND ALL RPMS AND IN VARIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS. ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME THAT I AM RIDING THIS BIKE I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS ANNOYANCE. THE OTHER 20% IT WORKS WONDERFULLY. USUALLY WHEN I FIRST START THE BIKE AND DRIVE OFF IT WORKS FINE, BUT WITHIN A FEW MINUTES THE JERKY THROTTLE PROBLEMS BEGIN. SO FAR I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF WORKING ON THE PROBLEM, WE HAVE DISCOVERED WAYS TO MASK THE PROBLEM BUT NO RESOLUTION TO DATE. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT SUZUKI ABOUT THE PROBLEMS THE REFUSE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. SUDDEN ON/OFF THROTTLE CAN CAUSE SUDDEN DECELERATION AND ACCELERATION, MAKING THE VEHICLE VERY VERY UNSTABLE LEADING TO LOSS OF CONTROL. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR AT 4,000-6,000 RPM AND SEEMS EVEN WORSE AT HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURES. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT!!! *TR

THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT INVOLVES THROTTLE RESPONSE WITH THIS MOTORCYCLE. WHILE RIDING, THE THROTTLE WILL GO TO FULL GAS OR COMPLETELY CUT OFF WITH THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF THROTTLE CHANGE. IT'S TO THE POINT WERE I FIND IT IMPOSSIBLE TO RIDE WITH A "NEUTRAL" THROTTLE, BECAUSE THE SMALLEST DIFFERENCE CAUSES A MAJOR IMPACT. I HAVE GONE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES. THEY DON'T SEEM TO KNOW WHY THIS KEEPS HAPPENING. *TR

1.) AT THIS POINT THERE IS NO FAILURE...YET. 2.) 2006 SUZUKI GSXR 600 MOTORCYCLE HAVE SEVERE ON/OFF THROTTLE RESPONSE. THIS IS THE 2ND GSXR LINEUP MOTORCYCLE THAT I OWN AT THIS TIME AND BOTH WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHEN APPLYING THROTTLE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH AND/OR HOW SMOOTH THE APPLICATION IS, MOTORCYCLE HAS A ABRUPT RESPONSE. PROBLEM IS ALSO VERY BAD WHEN GETTING OF THE THROTTLE ALSO. BY SAYING "ABRUPT" MOTORCYCLE DOES NOT ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE SMOOTHLY. IF NOT DONE AT THE UTMOST CARE, OPERATOR CAN BE VERY EASILY BE THROWN OFF AND/OR SEVERELY EFFECT THE BALANCE OF THE MOTORCYCLE THEREFORE CAUSING INJURY,PROPERTY DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE DEATH. MOTORCYCLE CANNOT MAINTAIN SMOOTH/CONSTANT SPEED SMOOTHLY AT ANY SPEED, GEAR OR TEMP OF MOTOR. NOTICED THE PROBLEM AFTER RIDING A DIFFERENT BRAND OF MOTORCYCLE AND AFTER SOMEONE RODE MY BIKE TO CONFIRM THE PROBLEM. ABRUPT THROTTLE RESPONSE IS SLIGHTLY BETTER AFTER INSTALLING AN AFTERMARKET FUEL INJECTION UNIT BUT PROBLEM IS STILL VERY PRESENT! SEEMS LIKE A FUEL INJECTION AND OR THROTTLE PROBLEM. WHEN RIDING THIS BIKE, TRYING TO MAINTAIN STEADY SPEED IS DIFFICULT. THE ENGINE RPM IS VERY JERKY AND ABRUPT. I JUST HOLD THE THROTTLE STEADY AND THE BIKE JERKS AND THEN ABRUPTLY COMES BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT, BUT IT IS INTERMITTENT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS IN CORNERS ESPECIALLY, IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME IN MID CORNER AND IT UPSETS THE BIKE HANDLING VERY BADLY. IT CAN LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY IN A CORNER. WHEN IT HAS THESE PROBLEMS, IT IS UNRIDABLE AND SCARY. WHEN YOU RIDE IT, IT FEELS LIKE YOU HIT THE KILL SWITCH OFF AND ON REPEATEDLY. THAT IS HOW BAD IT IS TO RIDE. I HAVE TAKEN BIKE TO NUMEROUS SUZUKI DEALERS AND NONE OF THEM HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM YET. *TR

IN THE MONTH OF JULY I BEGAN TO NOTICE A VERY TOUCHY THROTTLE AT ALL RANGES OF RPM'S. IT HAS SINCE CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS AS WELL. I WOULD SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR TO GET TRY TO GET RID OF THE PROBLEM IF I WAS JUST CRUISING FOR A MOMENT BUT IT WOULD STILL JERK HARD IN, AND EVEN OUT OF SMALL THROTTLE ADJUSTMENTS. VERY ANNOYING AND EVEN PAINFUL WITH A PASSENGER RIDING. I RIDE WITH SEVERAL BIKES OF THE SAME MODEL AND SO FAR 100% OF THEM HAVE HAD THE VERY SAME PROBLEM SO I KNOW IT'S NOT JUST MINE. PLEASE REPORT THIS TO SUZUKI AND HAVE THEM POST A WARRANTY FIX THAT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. *TR

FAILURE TO REAR TIRE ON MY 2006 GSXR 600 SUZUKI MOTORCYCLE THAT HAD 3014 MILES ON TIRE WITH NO ABUSE ON TIRE. THE TIRE SEPARATED AT 75 MILES PER HOUR ON HWY 95. THE TIRE SEPARATED ALL THE WAY AROUND THE CENTER OF THE TIRE THEN CAUSED ME TO LOSS CONTROL. I BELIEVE THE TIRES RUBBER COMPOUND SEPARATED. *JB

I HAD AN OVERHEATING ISSUE WITH THE BIKE. THE MOTORCYCLE HAD 800 MILES ON IT. I WAS RIDING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE AIR TEMPERATURE AROUND 70 DEGREE. THE BIKE WAS RUNNING AROUND 200 DEGREES. WHEN I STOPPED FOR GAS AT THE GAS STATION THE BIKE IMMEDIATELY OVERHEATED UP TO 250 DEGREES WHEN I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AN INDEPENDENT PROFESSIONAL MOTORCYCLE REPAIR SHOP REPAIRED THE BIKE AFTER THE FAILURE AND THEY FOUND OUT THAT THIS SERIES OF BIKES HAS A DESIGN FAILURE AT THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING. THE HOUSING IS SMALLER THAN THE THERMOSTAT'S OPENING PART SO THE THERMOSTAT CAN NOT OPEN FULLY OR CAN BE STUCK INSIDE IN A PARTLY OPENED POSITION. THE LOCAL SUZUKI DEALER IGNORED THE PROBLEM!!! THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE BRAKES DOWN. AMERICAN SUZUKI HAS BEEN NOTIFIED BY A LETTER ABOUT THE PROBLEM THERE IS NO RESPONSE YET. *JB

MY SON WAS RIDING UP OUR ROAD ON HIS SUZUKI GSX-R600. WHEN HE HIT HIS BRAKES TO A VOID HITTING A CAT. THE FRONT FRAME OF HIS MOTORCYCLE BROKE APART. AT THE WELD. ALL THE WELDS ON THIS FRAME LET GO. *JB
