Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2007-2010 Elantra and 2009-2011 Elantra Touring vehicles. On February 21, 2020 Hyundai expanded the recall to include 46,425 model year 2007-2008 Entourage and 2007 Santa Fe vehicles. Moisture may enter the Anti-lock Brake (ABS) Module and result in an electrical short.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay in the vehicle's main junction box to prevent the risk of an ABS short-circuit while the car is turned off, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 188.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Elantra vehicles manufactured June 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010, and 2009-2010 Elantra Touring vehicles manufactured November 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010. The electronic power steering (EPS) electronic control unit (ECU) may sense a discrepancy in the steering input signals and, as a result, disable the steering power assist.
Remedy: Hyundai will verify the proper operation of the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and update the EPS control unit, free of charge. The recall began April 14, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 127.

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Elantra Touring vehicles manufactured December 15, 2009, through May 7, 2012. The affected vehicles have a support bracket attached to the headliner that may become displaced during a side curtain airbag deployment.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will apply adhesive strips to the headliner, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 117.

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

I am aware of Hyundai Recall 127 (NHTSA Campaign 15V100000), which addresses the same issue, but my VIN is not included. I am requesting that Hyundai investigate and provide the same repair remedy for vehicles outside the initial recall VIN range that are experiencing identical failures.

MY DEALER ALLEDGELY FIXED THE RECALL IN 2021 ALONG WITH 2 OTHER RECALLS. AT THAT TIME I HAD NO PROBLEM WITH MY STEERING. NOW 2 YEARS LATER MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN IN A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION AND HASN'T WORKED SINCE. THE DEALER WOULD NOT FIX BECAUSE THEY SAID MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. HYUNDAI USA ALSO REVIEWED AND DENIED ME. ON THEIR WEBPAGE, IT DOES NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT A TIME LIMIT ON THEIR RECALL. IT IS A RECALL AND NOT A WARRANTY CONCERN. My power steering just stopped working. There was a safety recall on my car. i did not receive a warning notice. On Hyundai's website i entered my vin # and it said my car was affected and would be fixed free of charge or if I had already paid I would be reimbursed. The dealership refused to honor the recall. I called several times to HyundaiUSA and finally they said my car was out of warranty. No where online did it say the recall had to be fixed before the warranty ended. They just refused me and told me to take it up to someone else. I have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring. I did not cause this problem, they admit in the recall that there is a problem but are looking for a loop hole to get out of fixing it. Please help. The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) warning light illuminated, and the power steering assist failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that after restarting the vehicle, the power steering assist functionality returned. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V100000 (Steering). The contact notified the manufacturer of the failure and was initially informed that the VIN was under recall; however, later the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
I have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. On Saturday, July 22, 2023, after the car was put into park in my fathers driveway and the emergency brake put on, the front driver and passenger bags deployed. The force of it's deployment cracked the windshield in several places on the passenger side. There were no warning lights or indications that this would occur. The car was in park. The seatbelts are in a locked (not able to retract) form, so the car is not drivable. The two individuals in the front seat were disoriented for a short time. All 4 passengers in the car experienced ringing in the ears for approximately 3 hours, but are ultimately, physically alright, however, not mentally. If this had occurred in another setting, the risk of accident or other safety measures would have been grand, but luckily it happened at the home of a family member. The airbag malfunction needs to be eligible to be fixed and not at the expense of me the owner. The car has a camera located in it and it captured all items listed above. The video may be provided. The Hyundai corporate office has been contacted and an incident file opened. The insurance company has been contacted, as well. Nothing has been done with the car, as the corporate office noted that they may need to see it in it's original state.
Turning onto my street and continued two hundred feet to my driveway I had to turn the steering wheel one quarter to the left to keep the car straight on the road. On inspection of the vehicle I noticed the left rear wheel was at an angle. Further inspection showed the suspension had departed.
I received a letter from Hyundai telling me to have the work done, but there are no dealerships in my area willing to schedule me for an appointment. I attempted to use the www.hyundaiUSA.com/Campaign188 website to schedule an appointment based on my zip code. Five dealerships came up. Of those five, two had scheduling greyed out and the other three went to an error screen.
I pulled up to my house, turned the ignition off, and the airbag deployed in my face.
I bought this vehicle used, just three years ago. It had a little over 100k miles on it. Since purchase date, the car has died at least eight times and I've had to take it in for inspection four times. It has had three different batteries. The service techs have not been able to find anything technically wring with the car: alternator fine, engine fine, batteries fine, no reported power draws... yet I am still continuously finding myself stuck with a dead car. There was a bluetooth system in the vehicle when I bought it, but the second time it died, the service tech removed it in case that was what was drawing out power. However, it had died six times since.
While driving uphill, I let my foot off the gas pedal to make an upcoming turn. The car continued to accelerate, the brake pedal wouldn’t stop the car. Neutral made engine race to red-line. Turned ignition off and used hand brake, damaging handbrake shoes. Had car towed to dealership in Debuque, Iowa. After a few days was told that the floor mat had come loose and wedged accelerator down. Removed mat. 24 months later car accelerated the same way, unwanted, with brake pedal not stopping the car. There is no car mat to get stuck. Turned ignition off and used handbrake. Will be bringing car to a mechanic.
Traveling 25-30 MPH on a gravel road, car shuddered and seemed to tilt sightly to the left. At the same time a loud grinding noise was heard and steering felt funny. On stopping and exiting the car, I saw the left rear wheel was toed to the left, and leaning so that the top of the tire was extended beyond the fender arch. Looking beneath the car, I could see the left rear control arm had torn loose from it's pivot point near the center of the uni-body, due to corrosion. The wheel hub was attached to the car solely by the torsion bar, brake line, and strut. The car had passed a state safety inspection exactly one year previous, and has approximately 115K miles, primarily in Maine. There was NO warning before the failure, such as sloppy steering or unstable handling. The gravel road where the failure occurred leads to my vacation cabin. To get there and return home I must cross a mountain pass which is steep and winding both ways, with a speed limit of 50MPH. One side has sheer drop offs, and the other has solid rock ledge. If the failure had happened in this 10 mile stretch, the results could very well have been deadly. Someone may have offered to repair the corrosion damage to the uni-body, but I could never feel comfortable driving the car again. There was no damage to anything but the vehicle itself, so no police report was made. The extremely rural area where the failure occurred made it impractical to get the car to a Hyundai dealer. I junked the car with Dubois Towing and Salvage, 438 River Rd, Mexico, Maine, 04257 (207-364-7273).

POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I HAD SQEAKING NOISES WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL.ALSO SHIMMERING OVER SLIGHTEST BUMPS. DEALER ESTIMATE FOR NEW STEERING COLUMNS WAS ABOUT $2000.00 . I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHEN IT FROZE. AFTER I TUNED OF THE CAR IT WORKED. HOWEVER I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS THAT THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS INCLUDING HIGHWAYS. I FEEL THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PROBLEM.

HOWEVER NOW IT NEEDS ANOTHER STEERING REPAIR AND THE PARTS ALONE COST ME $1,446.89 AND LABOR WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL $300. FAILURE OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST OCCUR UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN I WAS DRIVING. I NOTICED A HEAVY STEERING WHEEL FEEL. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) SENSE A DISCREPANCY IN THE STEERING INPUT SIGNALS AND DISABLE THE STEERING POWER ASSIST. THE LIGHT TURNED ON. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS LOST, GREATER EFFORT BE REQUIRED FOR ME, WHILE I DRIVE, TO STEER THE VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
IN MY STEERING WHEEL IT MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE. I BROUGHT IT INTO A SERVICE STATION AND THEY TOLD ME IT NEEDED A FLEXIBLE COUPLING GROMT. I DIDN'T DO THIS IT IS ALL THE WAY DOWN IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY TOLD ME IT SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS NOTHING I DID. IT DOES THE NOISE WHEN I AM SITTING STILL. IF YOU TURN THE WHEEL IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS CATCHING ON SOMETHING.
THE TIRES WEAR OUT ON THIS VEHICLE, EVEN AFTER BEING PROPERLY ALIGNED! I HAVE HIM THROUGH 4 COMPLETE SETS OF TIRES AND HAVE 110,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE KEPT THE AIR PRESSURE AS IT SHOULD BE AND HAVE ROTATED THE TIRES EVERY 3000 MILES. ALL 4 SETS OF TIRES WORE OUT THE EXACT SAME WAY, WHICH WAS INNER EDGE TREAD WEAR. THE ALIGNMENTS WERE DONE BY HYUNDAI TWICE AND TWO SEPARATE BUSINESSES AFTER THAT. ALL SAID THE ALIGNMENT WAS WITHIN FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE ARE NO ADJUSTMENTS FOR CASTER AND CAMBER ON THIS VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM CAN APPARENTLY BE REMEDIED WITH AN AFTERMARKET CASTER CAMBER KIT WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY $200. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI, AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET AND LEARNING THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH OTHER HYUNDAI MODELS INCLUDING THE ELANTRA. HYUNDAI ADVISED ME THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE, BUT NOT ENOUGH FOR A RECALL. I AM AVERAGING APPROXIMATELY 27,000 MILES PER SET OF TIRES!!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA TOURING. WHILE TURNING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
TIRE AIR VALVE BROKE AND TIRE WENT FLAT INSTANTLY. CAR WAS IN DRIVEWAY AND I WAS CHECKING TIRE PRESSURE.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD BOOM AND THE SUNROOF SHATTERED AND FELL ON MY DAUGHTER AND ME. THE GLASS REMAINING IN THE FRAME WAS STILL CRACKLING AND WAS PUSHED UPWARD. THERE WAS NOTHING AROUND AT TUME TO HAVE HIT US AND IT APPEARED TO HAVE BLOWN OUT VS IN.
THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR NO LONGER STAYS UP AND IS A VISIBILITY HAZARD. LOOKING ON LINE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND SOME MODELS ARE ALREADY LISTED FOR THE RECALL HOWEVER NOT THE 2010 ELANTRA TOURING. THIS HAPPENS AT ANY TIME WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY IN MOTION ETC.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING,HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS. UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM AT DEALER. REF. TSB-15-01-019-1
MATERIAL USED IN THE GLS VARIANT'S STEERING WHEEL HAS DEGRADED TO THE POINT THAT THE RUBBER PIECES ARE CRUMBLING IN THE HANDS OF THE DRIVER. THE STEERING WHEEL MATERIAL HAS CRACKED AND DISINTEGRATED. DEALER TOLD ME THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CARS WITH EXCESS OF 14 YEARS OF USE THAT THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO.

MY DAUGHTER WAS RETURNING HOME FROM WORK. THE EPS (ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING) LIGHT AND THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. INDICATING THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING. SHE PULLED THE CAR OFF THE ROAD IN A PANIC AND CALLED ME. I TOLD HER TO GET THE CAR TO AN AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCED AUTO AND HAVE THEM CHECK THE FLUID AND THAT IN THE INTERIM THE STEERING MAY GET VERY HARD AND TO BE CAREFUL. SHE GOT IT TO ADVANCE AUTO AND WAS INFORMED THERE IS NO FLUID BECAUSE IT IS ELECTRONIC AND SHE NEEDED TO GET IT TO THE DEALER. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (GETTEL HYUNDAI IN SARASOTA) AND WAS TOLD THE COUPLER WAS OUT BUT THAT THE CAR WAS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE AND THE LIGHTS WOULD JUST STAY ON OR I COULD PAY $1500 TO HAVE A NEW STEERING COLUMN INSTALLED. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE AS I WAS DRIVING IT THERE AND I WAS HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL SO TIGHT MY FOREARMS WERE SORE BY THE TIME I GOT IT THERE. I AM STILL UNDER THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY (BUT NOT THE MILEAGE). I IMMEDIATELY CHECK FOR RECALLS ON NHTSA AND DISCOVER THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY THING. BY THIS TIME THE DEALER WAS CLOSED. CONTACTED THEM FIRST THING IN THE MORNING (TODAY) AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THAT THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THE DEFECTIVE STEERING! THIS IS NOT SOME SORT OF COSMETIC PROBLEM!! HOW CAN A CAR BE SAFE TO DRIVE WITH DEFECTIVE STEERING? WHY ARE THEY NOT HONORING THE RECALL? WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY AND WE TRAVERSE WINDY ROADS...IF THE STEERING DOES ACTUALLY GO OUT IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLY A FATALITY! THE CHROME COVERED INTERIOR PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE CRACKED AND THE JAGGED METAL EDGE CUT MY PASSENGER'S HAND. MY PASSENGER PULLED THE HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE, THE HANDLE CRACKED, AND THE METAL CUT HIS HAND.
