2022 HONDA CRF1100

I have completed the ecu update recall, I believe kr1, it has not been updated in the records yet. Independent of that there is an issue with the fueling system of my motorcycle. The vehicle hesitates at various times including but not limited to when pulling away from a stop. This cause me distress earlier today as the bike unnecessarily put me at risk crossing an intersection. It was at the dealer and they confirm the problem, they had it for a few weeks trying to resolve the issue with help from Honda. I don’t believe any parts have been sent to Honda. It is a back and forth situation of try this and see if it helps. There are no lights indicating an issue on the motorcycle.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda CRF1100. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V583000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. Today, I attempted to turn left onto Indiana State Highway 12 and as I was turning my motorcycle lost all throttle. The result of losing throttle meant I fell over in the middle of the highway. After reaching 6mph, the throttle sputtered and the traction control light flashed. Thankfully, the drivers on the highway were paying attention. If they weren’t, I could have easily died because cars travel at speeds of 50-60mph, even though the speed limit is 45mph. This is not the first time I have had this issue. On May 1, I had this issue at an intersection, but was able to avoid falling over. Unfortunately, it was not the case today. If Honda doesn’t have a fix for what I believe is a software issue, I have serious concerns about the safety of my motorcycle. This is truly a life or death situation.

After having a warranty update to the ECU on the bike (Honda campaign #KP7) the first time I rode up a moderately steep hill, that I had ridden the bike up previously without issue, the bike stopped without warning on the hill, the engine stayed running but there was no drive to the rear wheel. I had to apply both brakes to keep from rolling backwards down the hill. I was in a very precarious position since the hill was too steep for me to dismount or turn around, After carefully considering my position I found that the bike would engage the transmission and was able to carefully release the brakes and paddle with my feet to get the bike moving and ride up the hill. I returned the bike to Nash Powersports in Mesa, AZ, who did the warranty update, they contacted Honda and at their direction reinstalled the update they offered to test ride it but the steepest hill they had access to was a freeway onramp, which wasn't steep enough to recreate the problem, they are located in a very large, very flat, valley., I rode the bike home without issue. Once home I very carefully rode the bike up progressively steeper hills and found that there is a small icon at the bottom of the smaller display below the main display, which is the speedo, fuel gauge etc., that lights up on hills when the power starts to cut off, the Honda manual calls this icon the "torque control off" indicator. I found that I could ride up an incline of about 10 degrees without problem but an incline of about 15 degrees would make the "torque control off" icon flash and cut drive to the rear wheel. I then called Max at Nash Powersports and described my findings, he said he would consult Honda and get back to me. When I spoke to Max later He told me that he consulted Honda and was told that there's nothing to be done about the problem other than to turn off the wheelie control portion of the torque control system, which can be done temporarily by stopping the bike, and then performing a multi step process

TFT touchscreen has failed a few months after being purchased new, which means that ABS function cannot be reliably switched on or off by rider by using touchscreen. Honda dealer Santa Barbara Motorsport has inspected and confirmed functionality has been impacted by failed screen. Honda will not fix issue under warranty.

While traveling approx 15 mph, I pulled in the clutch lever to change gears and the engine lost all power, I had to pull over immediately and put the bike in neutral and turn the bike off and on again. I was in heavy traffic when the bike lost all power. It’s only happened the one time and I haven’t ridden much since then, and the dealer rode the bike and couldn’t reproduce it. There’s apparently no official recall for manual 2022 Africa Twin, but there are multiple other Honda bikes of the same year that have similar issues with recalls. The dealer just rode the bike around and since he couldn’t reproduce the issue, and since there’s no recall for this model, then there’s nothing they can do. There were no warning lights or indicators besides the RPM’s dropping to 0 and the bike acting as if I hadn’t cranked it yet.
