Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to file a safety complaint regarding the second-row seat controls in a Genesis GV80. Specifically, I have experienced a potentially dangerous issue involving the automatic seat-folding mechanism being activated unintentionally. In our vehicle, the button used to move or fold the second-row seat can be easily pressed accidentally—for example, by a child’s knee while entering the vehicle. When this occurs, the seat begins moving automatically without adequately detecting whether the seat is occupied. There have been two recent close calls in which one child was already seated in the second row, and another child entering the vehicle inadvertently pressed the button. The seat then began closing/moving toward the occupied position without stopping, creating a risk of injury to the seated child. In these instances, intervention was required to stop the seat movement. This raises serious concerns about the lack of sufficient occupant detection or obstruction detection in the seat mechanism. A system that allows powered seat movement without reliably sensing an occupant or obstruction poses a clear safety hazard, particularly for families with children. I respectfully request that this issue be investigated. It may warrant a recall, software update, or design modification to ensure: Improved occupant detection in the second-row seats Automatic stop or reversal when resistance or obstruction is detected Reduced likelihood of accidental activation of seat controls Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am available to provide additional details if needed.
I was driving a 2025 Genesis GV80 loaner vehicle at approximately 65-70mph when I began to hear a loud noise and feel shaking consistent with a tire issue. A tire pressure warning appeared on the dashboard. I immediately slowed down and attempted to safely move to the shoulder of the road. While trying to pull over, the vehicles lane keeping assist appeared to resist my steering input, making it difficult to move fully onto the shoulder. I was focused on safely exiting the roadway die to what I believed was failing tire. Trying to reach the shoulder area, the tire suddenly blew out. The vehicle lost control, spun, and we were involved in a head-on collision with a semi-truck. My family and I are fortunate to be alive. I sustained whiplash and ongoing neck pain; my husband suffered a hand injury that is not healing. My daughter had abrasion on her chin but recently has faded away. Since the accident, I have experienced significant anxiety while driving, especially related to vehicle noises and highway conditions. My children faced a traumatic event and still continue to bring up the day of the accident or show signs of it affecting them. My concern is that the lane assist system may have interfered with my ability to safely pull over during an emergency situation involving a tire failure. We are uncertain what caused the initial tire failure. The situation I was in could pose a safety risk to other drivers if the system resists drivers input during critical moments.

Twice my 4 year old grandson has had the foldable seats begin to fold while he was sitting in the chair. Once, while in his car seat and once while the car was parked in the garage while he sat in the rear seat. Both times were accidental. The first time he accidentally pushed the button reaching for a toy, the second time his shoe hit the button while he was climbing into the car to sit. Both I had to press the button reverse the folding option as the seat continued to fold despite the resistance from the chair the first time and again the second time as my grandson was seated while the folding rear seat continued to nearly crush him while folding down. There was a third time while loading groceries in the cargo area. A bag of groceries shifted and hit the button located in the trunk and began folding the chair.

I exited the car, the car door was shutting, however, not all the way shut. My thumb was between the door and the body of the car at which point the soft close feature engaged, shutting my thumb in the door all the way and squeezing shut. No warning signals. Finger is badly bruised and swollen. No inspections have been done.

The Forward Attention Warning system has many false readings (sun, glasses, looking to the right of the wheel at the other autos visible out of the right side of the windshield). When activating the FAW alarm it immediately shuts off lane assistance and adaptive causing rapid deceleration. 3 times when it did this it slows so rapidly that cars behind have to swerve to miss making contact. One time a slight contact was made. There is not a way to disengage it, even when following genesis instructions to "turn it off" it remains active. Gensis acknowledged complaints and looking at online forums shows this to be a growing safety problem. There needs to be a disable function for some amount of time, FAW is going to get someone hurt or worse.

I was driving at 65 mph (legal speed limit on Express Lanes) and entire front console went black. I was on Bluetooth call which dropped. I could not see speedometer or any of the gauges on the dashboard and could not see any of the radio/entertainment options. Everything was jet black. I pulled over at the first exit, turned off the engine and restarted the car. The services slowly reloaded and were restored. The next day the console began to blink but did not go out entirely. I went to the closest Genesis dealership and spoke to a technician. She said that other Genesis models are having similar issues and this has triggered a safety recall. She said that my Genesis 2025 GV-80 is not covered by the safety recall and said that the dealer will have to keep the car for an indefinite period of time and try to replicate the issue. She said without a recall, they cannot replace the malfunctioning parts. Genesis dealership will not be able to schedule my car for maintenance until late August. I do not feel safe driving my vehicle.

On [XXX], I opened my car door slightly to get out. I stood up and the door leaned back quickly and caught my thumb. I was trying to get the handle to release and it would not. Then my door initiated the soft close feature and secured my thumb in the door and would not release. I was screaming with no help around and my [XXX] in his car seat unable to help open the door. The door remained shut on my finger for about 10 seconds and released. I almost had a panic attack. It is 11 days later and my thumb is not doing well. I’m going to go to and orthopedic doctor this week to have it assessed. I’ve been taking ibuprofen and soaking it everyday. I cannot believe this “smart” vehicle did not detect something in the door that shouldn’t be and open immediately. My now [XXX] talks about it every day. It was a traumatizing experience and I don’t feel that I can trust this vehicle. It could have severed my thumb and not to mention had it been one of my children who got a finger stuck! I am so upset and this happened to my dominant hand. It’s still swollen, not the skin is peeling and there’s a huge knot on my thumb with no feeling in it. I only have a sensation in my thumb and I can barely move it. I cannot believe this happened to me and as much as I love my vehicle, I no longer trust it!! There should have been more thought put into the soft close feature! If you close a regular car door on your hand it’s going to reopen. If I try to close my garage and something is blocking it, it will not close. Why would this intelligent vehicle secure my thumb and not release. This is terrible! It has to be fixed!! I was so disturbed the day it happened, I couldn’t even think straight. I had a nurse practitioner at work look at it and now she thinks it needs orthopedic attention!! The pictures are 11 days post incident. I am terrified to have my dip powder removed from my nail. I’m scared my nail is going to come right off with it!!! The Forward Collision Warning in my GV80 activated unnecessarily, which resulted in the car to break without need / warning, this resulted in the GV80 being hit from behind, the GV80 was pushed forward into another vehicle. The vehicle is unsafe for driving and has remained parked. The Forward Collision Warning activated when it was not needed and caused a rear-end accident which was quite impactful since we were not expecting a collision. The GV80 was inspected by an independent service and could not be proved to be at fault. It was deemed to "operate as designed" in spite of our experience and now even though there is damage to one of the front end sensors from the accident. The dealership claimed the GV80 needs $8000 worth of repairs as a result of the rear end incident. I did experience unnecessary collision alerts a week before the collision, when I realized this was faulty, I called the dealership and they explained that there was a setting that was at fault that I NEEDED TO CORRECT in the Settings AND, that they had been receiving others reports of the same problem "three times already today." This setting needed to be reset upon each time I started the car and they explained I also needed to wipe clean all sensors before driving in inclement weather. I experienced 3 more unnecessary Collision Breaking incidents in a single 2 mile driving range and dropped the car off at the dealership as I felt very unsafe to continue operating the GV80.

i was driving down the freeway and the computer system had a complete reboot randomly. ALL screens went blank and ALL electronic functions were disabled until it came back up about a minute later. No radio, no ADAS features (no collision warning, no blind spot, no lane departure), no gauges to to judge speed. It was a complete distraction. Vehicle appeared to continue to drive but without any safety features. It is unknown if turn signals and day time running lights and air bag functions were disabled. I noticed issued after they applied an update for Android Auto with the maps not showing in the display even tho voice instructions came through the car. It was either a system update that should have never happened while the vehicle is in use, or I suspect an issue with Android Auto that caused the vehicle OS to crash and reboot.
