I purchased a used Ducati Monster 821 2018 in February of 2020. The rear brake pedal was very spongy. I thought it was a quirk of a Ducati Monster. I took the motorcycle for an annual inspection in May of 2021 at a non-Ducati dealer and was told that I have no rear brake. It was also mentioned that this is a known issue with Ducati Monsters and probably has a recall. I took the bike to the dealer for servicing and they acknowledged there is a recall on the rear brakes of the Ducati Monster as well as the fuel sensor which doesn't consistently display the correct amount of fuel in the gas tank. I wasn't informed of the recalls and I don't see it listed on the nhtsa recall list. In my opinion this is a dangerous failure that should be clearly communicated to owners.

I CURRENTLY OWN A 2018 DUCATI MONSTER 1200S THAT I PURCHASED LAST YEAR NEW; THE MOTORCYCLE HAS LESS THAN 1000 MILES WHEN THE REAR BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. NO BRAKE FLUID LEAK OR BRAKE PAD ISSUE SEEN. REAR BRAKE PEDAL BOTTOMS OUT WITHOUT ACTUATING BRAKES. I TRADED AT 2014 DUCATI MONSTER 1200 FOR THIS BIKE AS I WAS HAVING BRAKE ISSUES EVERY YEAR WITH THAT ONE AS WELL. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME IN 4 YEARS THAT MY BRAKES COMPLETELY WENT OUT ON A RIDE. THE PREVIOUS 3 TIMES WITH THE 2014 DUCATI I HAD TO PAY FOR A BREAK FLUSH EACH YEAR AND THEY FINALLY SAID THE MASTER CYLINDER "MIGHT BE THE ISSUE" AND THE DUCATI SERVICE DEALER REQUIRED ME TO PAY FOR A MASTER CYLINDER FOR REAR BRAKE. I'VE NEVER HAD BRAKES FAIL WITH ANY OTHER MOTORCYCLE (HONDA, HARLEY, OR KTM). THIS HAS TO BE MORE THAN COINCIDENCE WITH FAILING YEARLY 4 YEARS IN A ROW. I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT DUCATI CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT IT GOES TO VOICEMAIL AND THEY HAVE NOT CALLED ME BACK.
