IN SEPTEMBER 2004 I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF A RECALL RELATING TO THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR IN MY 2001 DAEWOO LEGANZA. THE FAULTY DEVICE WAS SUPPOSED TO CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE (WHICH IT DID), AND A BURNING SMELL AND/OR VISIBLE SMOKE (WHICH ALSO OCCURRED). THE LETTER MENTIOND A RANGE OF VIN NUMBERS OF VEHICLES INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND MY CAR IS WELL WITHIN THAT RANGE. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER FOR THE REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE PROBLEM RESULTING IN THIS RECALL WAS EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO MY CAR, THIS WAS NOT A COVERED SERVICE BECAUSE THE LOT NUMBER OF THE PART THEY REMOVED WAS NOT WITHIN THE AFFECTED LOT OF DEFECTIVE PARTS.
