THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. VEHICLE ENGINE SEIZED WHILE ON MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY I80, OUT SIDE OF SALT LAKE CITY. DISCOVERED VIA INTERNET THAT 2.7 ENGINES DEFECTIVE. DEALER NOT RETURNING CALL. RESEARCH SAYS THE SIGN THAT THE ENGINE IS STARTING TO SEIZE IS THE FLICKER OF THE OIL LIGHT. VEHICLE SOLD WITH THE POTENTIAL OF A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE, WHICH HAPPENED A MONTH AND A HALF AFTER VEHICLE SOLD. CAR HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 922 MILES SINCE PURCHASED. *TR
FRONT-END NOISES WERE REPORTED TO THE SELLING DEALER WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER THREE SHOP VISITS TO A CARY, NC, DEALER DURING WHICH THE TECHNICIANS "COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM," WE DECIDED TO JUST LIVE WITH THE NOISES. AFTER MOVING FROM NORTH CAROLINA TO FLORIDA, THE NOISES GOT WORSE. A CLERMONT, FL, CHRYSLER DEAL CHARGED US $100 TO CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM AND "COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING," BUT THEY DID OFFER TO REPLACE THE BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS FOR ABOUT $1100. BY THAT TIME, OF COURSE, IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. WE TOOK IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO FOUND THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS DID INDEED NEED TO BE REPLACED, SO WE DID. THE DISCONCERTING PART OF THIS IS THAT THE PROBLEM WHEN THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD ABOUT 30,000 MILES ON IT AND THAT THE TECH'S AT TWO DEALERS EITHER COULDN'T DETERMINE OR DIDN'T BOTHER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THEN, THE REPLACEMENT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE UNDER WARRANTY HAD TO BE DONE OUT OF POCKET AT ABOUT 58,000. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS SORT OF THING COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. NOW, FROM THE FRONT END SOUNDS WE'RE HEARING AGAIN, WE MAY NEED TO HAVE CV JOINTS REPLACED. WE HAVE AN EXTENDED DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY, AND THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED, SO IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE CHRYSLER DEALER HANDLES IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE REAR PASSENGER STRUT FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE STRUTS WERE REPLACED. 2004 CHRYSLER SEBRING LIMITED. OIL SLUDGE IN ENGINE LED TO ENGINE FAILURE AT 50,000 MILES. THIS CAR WAS PERFECTLY MAINTAINED, INCLUDING REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND OTHER MAINTENANCE. THE ENGINE SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED. APPARENTLY THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. MY MOTHER WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD WHEN THIS HAPPENED. SHE HAD JUST HAD DENTAL SURGERY THE DAY BEFORE AND WAS RECOVERING FROM A SEVERE INFECTION. SHE HAD TO SIT IN 98 DEGREE TEMPERATURES FOR MANY HOURS AFTER HAVING TO PUSH THE CAR TO A SAFE SPOT. THE CAR WAS ALMOST HIT BY OTHER CARS AS SHE PUSHED IT AND SHE SUFFERED HEAT EXHAUSTION AND OTHER PROBLEMS AS A RESULT OF THE INCIDENT. I HAVE A 2004 CHRYSLER SEBRING CONVERTIBLE V6. THE CAR STALLS EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE, AFTER STOPPING OR WHILE RIDING AT LOWER SPEEDS, MOST OFTEN IN HOT SUMMER DAYS. THE MAIN CONCERN IS THAT WHEN IT STALLS WHILE RIDING, I LOSE POWER TO THE BREAKS AND THE STEERING WHEEL, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. IT ALSO HAS A PROBLEM THAT AFTER RUNNING FOR A WHILE ON A HIGHWAY USING THE CRUISE CONTROL, WHEN IT COMES TO A STOP, IT BEGINS TO STALL, BUT I GUESS THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM KICKS-IN AND THAT LEADS TO A VERY RAPID ACCELERATION. AT THAT MOMENT, IF I AM NOT PRESSING FIRMLY ON THE BREAKS, THE CAR MAY EVEN JUMP FORWARD AND HIT SOMETHING. I REPORTED THESE ISSUES TO THE DEALER WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE IT. SINCE THIS HAPPENS SPORADICALLY AND I AM ALWAYS PREPARED FOR SUCH EVENTS, I DID NOT INSIST TOO MUCH WITH THE DEALER. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE ENGINE WENT "WIDE OPEN." I LURCHED FORWARD, JAMMED ON BRAKES AND TURNED IGNITION OFF. I PAUSED A MINUTE (IN FRONT OF STARTELED ONLOOKERS), RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND DROVE ON CAUTIOUSLY. NEXT DAY I TOOK CAR TO CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY "COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR." HE WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH A JUG OF WATER THAT WAS INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. HE SUFFERED MODERATE BURNS TO HIS RIGHT LEG. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HIS VEHICLE AND HIS WARRANTY WAS NOT VALID FOR THE HEATED SEATS THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST HIM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS 90,000.

I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. AFTER ANOTHER 1 MONTH OR SO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. PER THE DEALER I ONLY HAD 3 MONTHS OF WARRANTY THEREFORE THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AT THE TIME OF THE PURCHASED THE PERSON WHO SOLD THE CAR TO ME STATED I HAD 1 YEAR OF WARRANTY AND IT TURNED OUT I ONLY HAD 3 MONTHS OF WARRANTY. ALSO, DEALER I TOWED THE CAR TO HAD JUST LOST THEIR CHRYSLER FRANCHISE 3 DAYS EARLIER AS DID THE DEALER I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR FROM; CHRYSLER SAID THEY WOULDN'T EVEN TALK TO THESE DEALERS ANYMORE ABOUT THE CAR, I WAS ON MY OWN. I FOUND NUMEROUS WEBSITES SHOWING COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ENGINE THAT WERE EXACTLY LIKE MINE. THERE'S BEEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED IN NJ REGARDING THIS ENGINE FAILURE BUT I HAVEN'T FOUND ONE THAT I CAN PARTICIPATE IN YET. I SURRENDERED THE CAR TO CHRYSLER AS I WASN'T READY TO PAY OVER $8000 FOR A NEW ENGINE (MORE THAN THE CAR WAS WORTH). *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINUTES THE CAR STOPPED, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THE BATTERY WAS FINE BECAUSE THE RADIO AND HEAD LIGHTS WERE WORKING, I KNEW HAD OIL, MY HUSBAND CAME OUT AND TRIED TO JUMP START IT BUT HAD NO LUCK, HAD IT TOWED TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THE ENGINE WAS SEIZED. I HAD NO WARNING SIGN THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY ENGINE, THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS FINE AND THAT IT LOOK PRETTY CLEAN AS WELL. THEY TOLD ME A NEED A NEW ENGINE AT A COST OF $5500 FOR A USED ONE WITH A 6 MO. PARTS ONLY WARRANTY OR A FACTORY RECONDITIONED ONE AT A COST OF $7200. I CAN NOT AFFORD EITHER, AND STILL OWE APROX $6500 ON MY CAR LOAN. I FOUND A WEB SITE CALLED AUTO BEEF AND WITH LITTLE SURPRISE THERE WERE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A FAULTY PRODUCT. NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR A CAR I CANNOT USE OR INVEST ALMOST $7200 PLUS TAX ON A CAR THAT ISN'T WORTH THAT MUCH TO PUT INTO IT ANOTHER $7200.00. *TR
