THE BRAUN CORPORATION HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA ABOUT A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2008 GENERAL MOTORS MOBILITY CONVERSION, HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE LOW FLOOR MINIVANS. DURING CONVERSION, THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDE TRAILING ARM MODIFICATION MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ADEQUATELY WELDED.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND WILL HAVE A SUPPLY OF RETROFIT PARTS AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 4, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BRAUN AT 1-800-488-0359.

DORMAN IS RECALLING 979 STEERING KNUCKLES, DORMAN P/NOS. 697-902 AND 697-903, SOLD UNDER DORMAN'S "OE SOLUTIONS<SUP>TM</SUP>" BRAND NAME, AND NAPA P/NOS. 7-8502 AND 7-8503 WHICH WERE SOLD FOR REPLACEMENT USE ON THE VARIOUS VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.

The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal noise and noticed that the rear driver’s side door had intermittently became inoperable. The check fuel cap warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed. The vehicle had not repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. While driving on highway, car suddenly shifted into neutral and I was unable to get it back in gear. Garage said it needs a new transmission. I was almost hit from car behind because I suddenly had lose of power. No warning lights or any issues indicating something was wrong prior to this incident. Vehicle is available for inspection

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED HER FRIEND CAME TO THE SCENE AND DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO REPAIR STORE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH VARIOUS FAILURES. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER FIVE TIMES AND CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE OCCUPANTS WERE EXTRACTED BY THE JAWS OF LIFE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS BONES, HEAD, AND EYE SOCKETS. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A FRACTURED COLLAR BONE, SCRATCHES, AND BRUISES. BOTH OCCUPANTS REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET UPLANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT EVERY YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE RECURRING FAILURE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TIE ROD END NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRE ROD END WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO YEARS LATER. THE TIE ROD END WAS REPLACED A SECOND TIME BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE TIE ROD END WAS CONSISTENTLY REPLACED EVERY YEAR OVER THE COURSE OF FOUR YEARS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
