RECENTLY, THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED WITH THE RIGHT SIDE BRAKE LINE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY ISSUE AND THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE DEFECT WITHOUT THE EXPERIENCED FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 167,000.

THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED 2/11/99 STATING SOLDER JOINTS NEAR THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR CAN CRACK CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY. CONSEQUENCE SUMMARY STATED THIS CONDITION CAN RESULT IN INOPERATIVE WIPERS, REDUCING DRIVERS VISIBILITY, ETC. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO METRO CHEVORLET AND THEY STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE WIPERS AND THEY DID NOT FIX OR REPLACE ANYTHING. STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WITH MY PICK UP. MY WIFE FOLLOWING BEHIND ME IN HER GMC JIMMY. AFTER CHECKING FOR TRAFFIC, I PROCEEDED AND MY WIFE APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION. AT THIS TIME, I HEARD SOMETHING IN THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. THE SPARE TIRE FELL FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK AND LANDED IN THE ROAD. AS I LOOKED THROUGH MY REAR VIEW MIRROR, MY WIFE PROCEEDED AND RAN OVER THE TIRE, WHICH CAUSED HER VEHICLE TO GO AIR-BORNE. SHE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. AFTER CHECKING THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT, I FOUND THAT THE TIRE IS ONLY SECURED BY A SMALL CABLE. THIS CABLE BROKE CLEAN, AND THE TIRE FELL TO THE ROAD. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET AT PH#800-222-1020. I SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE NAMED BUCK ON 6-4-01. HE STATED THAT I SHOULD CHECK MY SPARE TIRE BETTER. HE WASN'T VERY HELPFUL AND I BECAME VERY UPSET AND CALLED ON 6-5-01. THIS TIME I SPOKE WITH A PERSON NAMED AMBER. SHE ALSO SAID I SHOULD CHECK THE VEHICLE EQUIPMENT BETTER. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE OF SAFETY AND THAT SOMETHINGT SIMILAR COULD HAPPEN AT GREATER SPEEDS, RESULTING IN DEATH. I WANTED TO BE CONTACTED REGARDING HOW THE PROBLEM WAS GOING TO BE HANDLED BUT SHE SAID NO ONE WOULD CALL ME. I THEN SPOKE ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF A LAW SUIT AND THEN SHE STATED I WAS ACCUSING THEM OF WRONG DOING. I ALSO EXPLAINED NEW YORK STATE DIDN'T REQUIRE SPARE TIRE CHECKS ON INSPECTIONS AND THAT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR INDIVIDUALS TO CHECK EVERY PART OF A VEHICLE, TO SEE IF SOMETHING WAS GOING TO BREAK. SHE THEN TOLD ME TO GO TO A DEALER AND GET THE VEHICLE CHECK AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD DETERMINE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I WENT TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE CABLE BROKE BECAUSE OF NEW YORK STATE WEATHER. NONE OF THESE INDIVIDUALS HELPED ME AND THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE OF SAFETY. WHEN MY WARRANTY RUNS OUT IN 14000 MILES, I WILL BE STUCK WITH THE COST OF FIXING A POOR DESIGNED PART, KNOWN TO FAIL. I AM CURRRENTLY LOOKING FOR ANOTHER TRUCK BECAUSE OF THIS HAZARD. I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT MIGHT FAIL, AND WHAT THE DEALER WILL DO TO FIX IT. LAST TIME IT TOOK, I BELIEVE FIVE, TRIPS BEFORE THEY REPLACED THE INJECTION PUMP. THIS IS A SERIOUS HAZARD AND MAKES THESE TRUCKS UNSAFE. 1000'S OF OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANY INVESTIGATION HAS EVER BEEN DONE. THANKS

AS I WAS STARTING OFF AT A STOP SIGN, I PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE AND MY SEAT TILTED BACKWARDS. IT IS JUST LIKE A ROCKING CHAIR NOW. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP IN EASLEY AT CRANE CHEVROLET AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT. I CALLED THE CHEV. COMPANY AT1-800-222-1020 AND THEY SAID CONSIDERING THE MILEAGE THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. SO NOW I AM CONTACTING YOU. THE SEATBELT WILL BE OF NO USE IN A WRECK BECAUSE THE SEAT WILL BREAK COMPLETELY LOOSE IN AN ACCIDENT. THE SEAT IS NOT ATTACHED TO THE FRAME IN THE FRONT PART OF THE SEAT. *AK

THE WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER TOTALLY FAILS. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION LASTING FROM A FEW MINUTES TO A FEW HOURS. IT IS A SAFETY ITEM THAT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED IN PREVIOUS RECALLS. THE LOCAL DEALER REFUSED TO CORRECT IT BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT IDENTIFIED IN PREVIOUS RECALL NOTICES. THIS IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF VISUAL SYSTEMS FAILURE DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 98V150000 AND 98V150001. YOUR LETTER POSTMARKED JUNE 22, 2000 STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE FROM NET INC WOULD CONTACT ME WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. FIVE WEEKS HAVE PASSED AND I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED.
