POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:SEALS/GASKETS
Defect Description
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2021-2024 BMW R18 motorcycles. The seal for the reverse gear control unit may deteriorate and allow moisture inside the control unit, which can result in the unit overheating.
Consequence
An overheated reverse gear control unit increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy
As an interim remedy, the reverse gear control unit will be disconnected from the electrical system of the motorcycle, free of charge. at approximately 48,000 miles driven the check engine light turned on when car was taken to the mechanic, code p052e71 came back as the problem, which means crankcase breather hose had to be replaced. the cost was almost 2000 dollars.
