BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2025 i4, 2022-2024 IX, 2023-2024 I7, and 2024 I5 vehicles. The electric drive motor software may shut down the high-voltage system, causing a loss of drive power.
Remedy: The electric drive motor software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 5, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2025 IX, 2023-2024 I7, and 2022-2023 i4 vehicles. The high-voltage battery cell modules may not have been assembled properly, resulting in stress on the module frame and possible module failure.
Remedy: Dealers will replace specific high-voltage battery cell modules, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed September 11, 2025. Another notice will be sent once the remedy becomes available, anticipated December 31, 2025Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The ground connection to the steering wheel may not have been attached correctly, resulting in an inoperative hands-on detection system.

[XXX] Problem: Multiple tire blowouts causing safety hazards and air-suspension damage Complaint Summary: My 2024 BMW i7 has experienced multiple tire blowouts, including the most recent , two within days of each other (12/8/2025 and 12/10/2025). On 12/8/2025, BMW replaced the right rear tire and advised me that the vehicle was safe to drive. Two days later, the left rear tire suffered the same sudden failure, requiring another tow. These failures occurred during normal driving and immediately after BMW dealership inspection and clearance. In addition to these recent events, earlier blowouts on this vehicle have already caused damage to the air-suspension system, requiring repairs. This indicates the issue is not normal tire wear but a recurring safety defect involving the vehicle’s weight, load distribution, tire load rating, or compatibility with the i7’s unusually high curb weight. The repeated failures and resulting suspension damage raise concerns about a broader defect in the design, load-bearing capability, or inspection procedures for this model. This vehicle is unsafe to operate, and the recurring blowouts place my family and other motorists at risk. This time my son was in the car. These dealerships do not really care to even look at it, they drive the car for 2 miles and return it with a no problem found issue. Enough is Enough. The last time it was taking to the dealership after the automatic brakes would engage suddenly, they advise me that car was taken to a mechanic which is ridiculous. I am not in communication with BMW head quarters and they keep telling me to wait for a decision. This is not a waiting decision.

On August 15, 2025 at approximately 6:30pm our 2024 BMW i7 eDrive50 with the Active Park Distance Control package accelerated in reverse when parking assistance was initiated to back out of a parking space at a small business facility, causing the vehicle to strike a tree. The cronology of the incident is as follows: 1. While the driver had his foot on the brake, he touched the assisted parking icon on the dashboard display to enable the automatic backup system. 2. The driver then lifted his foot from the brake and the vehicle accelerated in reverse despite the driver NOT having his foot on the gas pedal. 3. The backup camera did not engage or show the backup view when the car was moving quickly in reverse. 4. The driver slammed on the brake just as the vehicle struck a tree with the rear right bumper and panel. In summary, the automated parking space back up feature malfunctioned by accelerating in reverse while the driver's foot was not on the gas pedal. Simultaneously, the back up camera did not engage to show the rear view while the vehicle was moving in reverse. This malfunction created a safety risk that could have put other vehicles, people or property at risk of damage or injury, beyond the estimated $8,000-$10,000 damage sustained by this BMW i7. A certified BMW collision repair facility has inspected this vehicle and are awaiting inspection from BMW customer support. The collision repair facility was not able to find a video of the incident in the vehicle camera history files or in any alerts. The driver has not attempted to reproduce the malfunction. The vehicle is awaiting inspection from BMW customer support. There were no warning lamps or messages displayed during or after the accident. BMW customer support has been contacted.

I have now experienced multiple instances where the vehicle suddenly brakes on its own while driving at normal speeds, without any obstruction or hazard ahead. This is not only unacceptable — it's extremely dangerous, putting both myself and other drivers at risk of serious injury. Despite bringing the vehicle in twice to the dealership, the issue persists. I continue to receive dashboard malfunction alerts, and the automatic braking problem has not been resolved. Each time, I am left without a vehicle, impacting my ability to work. I did not purchase a $100k+ vehicle to live in fear of sudden, unpredictable, and life-threatening malfunctions. Today, while driving, the vehicle completely shut off in motion, creating a highly dangerous situation. This follows multiple previous incidents where the car automatically braked without cause and displayed repeated malfunction notifications on the dashboard. I have brought the car to the dealership twice, and yet the problem persists. This is not only unacceptable — it's an imminent risk to my safety and the safety of others on the road. The fact that a brand-new luxury vehicle with this price tag continues to experience such serious failures is beyond frustrating — it is life-threatening.

SUSPENSION Dec 11, 2024
On November 9, 2024 while driving the vehicle in light traffic on the 405 southbound between the 101 and the 10 freeways, the right front of the vehicle made a cluck noise. There were no obsticales on the freeway and no other vehicle was involved. Shorthly thereafter, the vehicle made another loud clunk noise from the right front of the vehicle. I exited the 405 freeway and turned right. Within a mile, the right front suspension totally collapsed causing the car to careen left. On the street I was on, there is a center median with a curb. the car rode the curb for several feet and the left front end of the vehicles suspension collapsed. The car came to a halt and was towed to the BMW dealer where I leased the car. The car computer said chassis function restricted. Fortunately there were no other vehicles involved since the car was no longer drivable after the catastrophic suspensinon collapse. It should also be noted that for the first 3 months after leasing this vehicle, the computer did not recognize the keys or fobs (being locked out of the car consistently) and after numberous attempts to fix the matter, BMW had the vehicle for over 6 weeks. It is evident that the i7 EDrive 50 has serious safety issues that may be related to its computer system. These two issues should be looked at. Had the suspension collapsed on the freeway the car most likely would have been in a serious collision.

Last week while driving, one of the front corners level suddenly went down in the middle of the road. Car was towed to the dealership. After it was inspected by BMW dealership I was informed that there is a suspension damage and one tire rim damage " due to impact" and either the car hit something or had pothole incident. I did not run or hit any object and did not drive over major potholes. So the estimate for repair of the right front air spring strut, graphed alignment and right front rim replacement was for 8200$. The car is 3 months old and top tier BMW 7 series. I used to drive 540 just before I got this new 7 series, and i had it for almost 5 years , had been through different potholes, different quality roads, had multiple issues with run flat tires but never had an issue with the suspension. Should I question the quality of the car and parts being used?
