ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:STARTER ASSEMBLY
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020 340I, X6, 2020-2025 840I, 2020-2022 740LI, 2019-2020 X7, and X5 vehicles. After repeated attempts, the starter motor may overheat from an electrical overload.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the engine starter, free of charge. This recall includes vehicles repaired under recall 24V576 and those owners will need to have their vehicle repaired again. Owner notification letters were mailed February 9, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov November 17, 2025.

In September 2025, BMW issued a recall # 25V644 for a safety related potential fire issue on the starter for my 2022 840i Gran Coupe. It has now been 4 months, and BMW is still telling me they do not have the assigned parts to resolve this issue. Furthermore, NHTSA has somehow dropped this recall off the records for the VIN of my car, which is troubling. My compliant is BMW is not timely in their efforts to correct a safety fire issue for my vehicle.

Customer filing a complaint against BMW for untimely resolution of Recall #25V644. This recall is a known Safety Risk which began in the summer of 2025. It is now December 4, 2025, and discussions today with BMW North America, they cannot provide me an ETA of when parts will be available for my vehicle. Further info from BMW North America says they will mail me a letter sometime? in 2026 to tell me when parts are available but if I have electrical heating/smoke issues before that to take the car to the BMW Dealer. BMW appears to be pretty nonchalant about this recall and can't provide timing to resolve the serious nature of a fire being the result of this recall's safety risk. Very disappointing.

The contact owns a 2022 BMW 840I. The contact stated that while driving at 5 MPH, the vehicle stalled unexpectedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was blocking the garage. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V644000 (Electrical System). The local dealer was contacted regarding a loaner vehicle, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the part for the recall repair was not yet available. There was no ETA for parts availability. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

Despite this, BMW of Arlington has refused to authorize repairs or allow BMW of Austin to complete the necessary work—even after a $13,565 drivetrain failure diagnosis. On October 4, 2025, our 2022 BMW 840i became inoperable due to worn splines in the rear differential and drive shaft. BMW of Austin confirmed the failure was consistent with prior service-induced damage. The component is available for inspection. The issue followed a July 24 oil change at BMW of Arlington, after which the vehicle became undriveable. Staff verbally admitted damaging a plastic part but provided no technician report. A loaner vehicle was issued, implying acknowledgment of faultThe problem was confirmed by BMW of Austin. BMW of Arlington has not inspected the failed component and stated they “do not know what caused it.” No inspection has been performed by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Prior symptoms included persistent tire pressure issues, a visibly bent rim, and a failed emissions test dated October 28, 2022—before our purchase. The vehicle was titled at 21,248 miles but listed days later at 41,418 and 48,290 miles, triggering a NMVTIS “possible odometer rollback” alert. Following our escalation to BMW Group CEO [XXX] , our BMW app was restricted and warranty data—including federally protected emissions coverage—was removed. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Jun 27, 2022
The Gear Shift area flawed design and defective assembly allows fluid spill to short out transmission and shifting ability. Assembly is not sealed correctly which allows a spilled fluid to leak through the gearshift on and into the the GWS. The GWS was not sealed causing a short in the the assembly & the need for its replacement at substantial cost to the owner. The drink holder is place next to gearshift area with no consideration that spilled fluid will cause the car to shut down and the GWS replacement. 06/21/2022
