BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2005-2008 745i, 745Li, 750i, 750Li, 760i, 760Li, and B7 Alpina vehicles equipped with both the Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options. In these vehicles, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but, in fact, may inadvertently open.
Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will update the door latch system, free of charge. The recall began February 8, 2018. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
BMW of North America LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2006 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi sedans and 325xi sports wagons, model year 2007 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi sedans and 328i and 328xi sports wagons, model year 2006-2007 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi, 550i sedans and 530xi sports wagons, model year 2006 760i sedans, model year 2006-2007 750i, 750Li, and 760Li sedans, and model year 2006 X5 sports activity vehicles, equipped with certain seat types. The front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure.
Remedy: BMW will notify owners with an interim notification letter in January 2014 since parts are not currently available. When parts are available, BMW sent a second letter in August and dealers will repair the occupant detection mat to eliminate the possibility that it may crack, free of charge. Additionally, owners of model year 2006-2007 3 Series with standard seats, 5 Series with comfort seats, and Z4 models, will receive an extended warranty on their front passenger seat occupant detection mat. The affected vehicles have an electronic key and an electronic connection between the gear shifter and the transmission (shift-by-wire) that automatically shifts the transmission to Park when the driver presses the Start/Stop button to shutdown the engine. If the driver presses the engine Start/Stop button 2 or 3 times within a short time interval, the system may shift the transmission to Neutral rather than Park. If using the electronic key (Comfort Access mode), there would be no protection from the ignition interlock that prevents key removal if the vehicle is not in Park.

Due to a software problem, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but, in fact, may inadvertently open.

The contact owns a 2007 BMW 750I. The contact stated that the front driver’s side door failed to close correctly. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the battery was causing the failure. The battery had been replaced at least three times. The contact stated that she took the vehicle back several times and the failure was finally diagnosed as a malfunctioning door latch. The contact stated that the door handle and latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact inquired about a recall for the door and was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V328000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

The contact owns a 2007 BMW 750I. The contact stated that while driving, the door failed to close securely. The contact stated that the door was latched but failed to remain closed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not re-repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V328000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The manufacture was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not under warranty, and the VIN was not included in a recall for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

The contact owns a 2007 BMW 750i. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving or idling, he heard a rattling noise coming from the engine. The contact then stated that on another occasion while driving, he heard a rattling noise in the engine while making a left turn then the vehicle stalled. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH ENGINE OFF AND SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED. ***I HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF THE ENTIRE ORDEAL. ***** THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED FOR ROUGHLY 4 HOURS PRIOR TO FIRE STARTING UNDERNEATH THE HOOD FO NO APPARENT REASON. REACHED OUT TO BMW AND WAS TOLD DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE DAMAGE THEIR INVESTIGATORS COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OR ORIGIN OF THE FIR AT THE TIME OF THE INSPECTION. THE NATIONAL ENGINEERING GROUP OBSERVED THERMAL DAMAGE ISOLATED TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WITH GREATER CONSUMPTION TOWARDS THE FRONT. THIS OCCURRED DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN AND BMW IS DENYING RESPONSIBILITY AND HELP.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER BMW NORTHWEST(4011 20TH STS. E. FIFE, WA) WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY IT UNEXPECTEDLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE AND RESTART THE CAR. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND IT WENT INTO NEUTRAL AGAIN. I HAD TO TURN ON THE CAUTION LIGHTS AND RESTART THE CAR. IT WAS REPORTED TO ME THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL FOR THE SITUATION BUT WHEN I HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY INFORMED ME MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE WASN'T UNDER RECALL. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP, SHIFTED THE VEHICLE IN "PARK" AND SAW THE "P" LIGHT COME ON THE DASH, AND PROCEEDED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. BECAUSE I WAS ONLY RETRIEVING MY MAIL FROM THE MAILBOX, I DID NOT TURN THE CAR OFF OR PUT THE PARKING BRAKE ON. AS I EXITED THE CAR, AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD EVEN THOUGHT THE "P" WAS LIT ON THE DASH. I IMMEDIATELY GRABBED ONTO THE DOOR AND JUMPED BACK IN THE CAR, AS IT ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND AND PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND ALL THE WHILE, THE SHIFT INDICATOR WAS LIT IN THE "P" FOR PARK POSITION. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD A FEW INSTANCES WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AND THE DASH INDICATOR LIGHT READS "TRANSMISSION FAULT DRIVE MODERATELY". IT APPEARS AND THEN GOES AWAY AND DOES NOT RE-APPEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT IT WAS A NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 750I. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IN A PARKING LOT AND ATTEMPTING TO APPLY THE BRAKES WHEN THEY FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED MOVING AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH AND A TREE. THE CONTACT WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA HELICOPTER. HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH MULTIPLE FRACTURES AND BRAIN HEMORRHAGING. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MEMORY LOSS AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS FOUND 35 TO 40 FEET INTO THE DITCH AND HAD CRASHED APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES FROM THE MAIN ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A SERVICE CENTER. A DETAILED POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 750I. WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE A PART WAS REPAIRED ON ONE OF THE DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THREE PRIOR OCCASIONS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BATTERY HAD DIED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 33,000.

HID HEADLIGHTS AND THE AMOUNT OF GLARE PRODUCED NEEDS TO BE REGULATED BY THE GOVERNMENT. I DRIVE A LOT OF NARROW COUNTY 2 LANE RAADS WHERE THERE ARE NO RIGHT SIDE WHITE LINES. I HAVE TO CLOSE MY EYES SOMETIMES WHEN CARS WITH THESE NEW HEADLIGHTS APPROACH. I DRIVE WITH REGULAR HEADLIGHTS AT SAFE SPEEDS AT NIGHT AND HAVE NEVER FELT THE NEED FOR THESE FLAMETHROWER LIGHTS. I'M SURE DRIVERS WITH HID'S LOVE THEM BUT THEY ARE JEOPARDIZING THE SAFETY OF THEMSELVES AND ME. BMW LIGHTS SEEM TO BE THE WORST. THE AMERICAN MADE CARS WITH HID'S SEEM TO BE BETTER. *TR
