The vehicle involved is a 2017 Dodge Durango. The primary systems malfunctioning include the engine cooling system, braking system, and electrical system. The engine repeatedly overheats while driving and has produced smoke from under the hood, creating a risk of breakdown or fire. The braking system is unreliable, with the brake pedal going down too far and not providing proper stopping power, i
... ncreasing the risk of a crash. The electrical system malfunctions unpredictably, including windshield wipers and interior controls turning on and off without input. These issues have occurred multiple times and have left the vehicle stranded on the side of the road, including at night. This has placed the driver and passengers at risk in unsafe conditions and traffic environments. The problems began shortly after purchase and have been ongoing. The issues have not been properly resolved. A mechanic was supposed to inspect the vehicle, but it is UNKNOWN if a full inspection was completed. Warning signs included overheating temperature readings, smoke, weak braking response, and electrical irregularities prior to failure. The vehicle is currently not reliable or safe to operate due to these ongoing safety defects.Read more

Beginning in October 2025, the Kwikee electric retractable side steps on my Winnebago Ekko began deploying spontaneously while the vehicle was being driven at highway speeds. The steps are designed to retract automatically upon the vehicle being placed in gear and to deploy only when the vehicle side access door is opened via magnetic reed switch. The failure mode observed is the inverse of intend
... ed behavior: steps extend and retract outward while the vehicle is actively in motion, without any door opening event. The issue was first documented in October 2025 and formally reported to La Mesa RV, my authorized Winnebago warranty service center, beginning in November 2025. The vehicle has been returned to service a total of five (5) times for this identical complaint. Individual components have been replaced (door open reed switch, wiring for switch, and control board), but the failure has recurred following each repair. To date, no repair attempt has resolved the root cause, and the behavior continues creating a safately concern for this vehicle, other vehicles on the road, and pedestrians. Safety Consequences: The deployed steps extend beyond the vehicle's body profile, creating a physical road hazard capable of striking curbs, guardrails, adjacent vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians at speed. At highway speeds, a deployed step represents a significant aerodynamic and structural load not intended by the manufacturer, risking step detachment and road hazard. The driver has no reliable warning that deployment has occurred, meaning the hazard may go undetected for an extended period while driving. Other motorists and pedestrians cannot anticipate or predict the presence of an extended step on an otherwise moving vehicle. Component / System Involved: Lippert Kwikee electric side step system, including the step control module, door trigger switches, and retraction motor assemblies. Wiring should include an ignition interlock preventing deployment while in gear.Read more

Generator started on its own sometime yesterday evening. The motor home was plugged into 30amp outlet and on shore power. Based on generator hours compared to an inspection I made last week it ran for approximately 15 hours before detection. (we had t-storms all yesterday and I never went outside). Had we gotten out onto Highway 17, ours and others lives could have been severely impacted, as we likely would not have noticed nor been able to deal with the fire as quickly. We have unplugged the 4-pin wire plug from the Balmar regulator. Once we restarted the engine, a piece of plastic came flying out, and then everything started spinning freely. There is an obvious defect in the hood latch system and puts drivers at risk as the hood cannot be opened if needed possibly stranding a driver on the road with a non-functioning vehi
... cle and no way to assess or repair the issue. Think low oil, overheating engine, no wiper fluid, fuse blown, no way to assess the issue. This is a common problem as found in internet forums. Many complaints have been filed with the NHTSA see campaign numbers 11693537, 11691685, 11681799, 11648046, 11630017. The fix involves removing the left front tire, removing the wheel well trim and and under fender skirting (25+ torx head screws), locating and opening cable junction box in the engine compartment from under the wheel well and pulling the cable with pliers to open the hood. The broken cable has to be removed by removing two interior panels inside the car cabin and pulling cable and grommet out. Then fishing replacement cable back through firewall into channel and up to the cable junction box. This is a 2-3 hour process. Cost is in excess of $500-700 at most dealers. The replacement cable is of the same design, so likely to also fail at some point. There should not be so many failures of a part that is only used 3-5 times per year.Read more

Summary of the Safety Defect The passenger-side window of my 2024 Winnebago Era 70X fell out of the vehicle. The window detached from the frame and separated from the RV while the vehicle was stationary. This failure represents a serious safety hazard, as the window could have fallen out while driving, potentially causing injury to occupants, other motorists, or pedestrians. Winnebago has acknowl
... edged the issue but has stated that the replacement window is on backorder with no estimated timeline. The vehicle cannot be safely operated without this window. Details of the Incident The passenger-side window unexpectedly detached from the RV. The window assembly appears to have failed at the adhesive or mounting points. This failure could have resulted in the window falling out at highway speeds. The defect compromises structural integrity, weather sealing, and occupant safety. The RV has been unusable since the incident. Manufacturer Response Winnebago Customer Care has stated: The window is “still on backorder.” No estimated date for replacement is available. They have not provided a temporary fix or safe-operability guidance. This leaves the vehicle in an unsafe, non‑operational condition. Why This Is a Safety Concern A window detaching from a motor vehicle is a critical safety defect because: It can detach while driving and strike other vehicles or people. It exposes occupants to road debris, weather, and potential ejection hazards. It compromises the structural integrity of the vehicle’s sidewall. It prevents safe operation of the RV. Requested Action I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this defect to determine whether: The window detachment is part of a broader pattern among Winnebago Era models The adhesive/mounting system is defective A recall or corrective action is warranted I am also requesting that NHTSA document this incident as part of its safety defect database.Read more

After researching I learned there had been a recall on the ICCU for model years 2021-24. However, when entering our car's VIN into the Hyundai recall site, and also in the NHTSA recall site, we found that our car was not included in the recall. Still, the ICCU failed. If we had driven on a freeway the sudden loss of propulsion could have caused a catastrophic collision. I also read that even after ICCU replacement due to recall, some replaced ICCUs failed again. I am very concerned about the safety of the car, even after repair. The mechanic advised us that it may take more than a week for the ICCU to arrive for replacement.Read more

I was making a road trip in my 2024 F150 Lightning Lariat. I pulled up to a Tesla supercharger. I turned the car off and attempted to plug in but the cable was about three inches too short. It clipped two charging stations, hopped a curb and went into a field, h

I turned the vehicle off and back on and drove out of the field, the truck behaving normally. I finished the trip and returned home without incident. In reviewing the experience in my mind, I can't make mistaking the accelerator for the brake pedal make sense. You can't turn the vehicle on without pressing the brake pedal. You can't put it in gear without pressing the break pedal. And the fact that it continued to accelerate after hitting the charger doesn't sound like a pedal mistake. I have never found the human factors of the F150 to be challenging - it is very straight forward to drive. I also don't think I could have accidentally hit the cruise control. You can't accidentally engage the cruise control from a standing stop. I do always use one-pedal driving.Read more

A panel on the roof of the vehicle detached while driving at highway speed (60MPH). The panel is held on by bolts and affixed to the roof with glue. The glue failed and the bolts do not attach directly to the roof. The panel is fairly heavy and large and would present a major hazard to a following vehicle. This has been confirmed by the dealer and the detached panel is available for inspection.
... There was no warning prior to the detachment of the panel. The Winnebago name for the panel is "Panel Trim Front Cap, LH #329370-01-CHT".Read more

Video camera in the back is almost unusable at times, get loss of vision completely or it's flipped image and distorted. Don't know if this counts but I had a issue where key batteries where fine and the car did not want to unlock or start. Also last winter the door would not unlock and if forced would not close.

There is a Balmar alternator installed on my Winnebago EKKOs that failed by smoking and burning. Winnebago replaced it with the same piece of equipment and it too has failed. They will again replace with another Balmar putting me at risk of fire and failure. This is totally unacceptable! Please help all us EKKO owners force Winnebago to solve this with a safe solution. Some owners have had 6 Balma

My backup camera turns off when I am backing up. I can no longer see behind my vehicle and I do not get any warnings that a car is approaching from either side of my vehicle. On a more minor note the sun roof opened on its own while I was driving on a highway during a rain storm

The problem occurs in my 2019 Jeep Wrangler, suddenly, typically after hitting a small bump or uneven section of pavement at around 60–70 mph. The entire front end begins to shake violently, and the steering wheel jerks rapidly back and forth, making it extremely difficult to maintain control of the vehicle. The only way to stop the shaking is to brake hard and slow down below 50 mph, which crea
... tes a dangerous situation. This violent steering vibration causes loss of directional stability and could easily lead to an accident if it happens in traffic or during lane changes. The sensation is so severe that it feels as if the front suspension or wheels are coming loose. I brought my Jeep to Wallace Jeep in Stuart, Florida where the technicians confirmed steering instability but stated that the steering damper is covered but the steering gear is not covered under warranty. I also contacted Jeep Cares, case # [XXX], and was told that Jeep “does not have to cover” my vehicle, even though it falls directly within the affected 2018–2020 Wrangler JL range identified in the [XXX]. v. FCA US LLC class action settlement related to the Death Wobble. The dealership’s refusal contradicts Jeep’s own Technical Service Bulletin 08-074-20 REV. E (“Improved Steering Feel”), which addresses steering wander, pull, and excessive play by replacing the steering gear and updating the EHPS software — exactly the symptoms I’m experiencing. This is a serious safety issue that occurs without warning and has not been resolved through the repairs or coverage Jeep has offered. The manufacturer’s denial of responsibility despite a known defect leaves drivers at risk of losing control at highway speeds. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate and require Jeep/Stellantis to expand the recall or provide full coverage for all steering-related components contributing to this dangerous condition. October 10, 2025. The vehicle is a 2022 Winnebago EKKO RV on a 2021 Ford Transit with 49,000 miles. The incident occurred after driving the vehicle for about 5 minutes with outside temperatures around 50 degrees Fahrenheit and noticed an unusual high pitch whine. When I opened the hood the Balmar MC-618 Alternator unit was extremely hot, smoking, and had a strong burning smell. Since the EKKO mode
... ls have had numerous reports of secondary alternator/Balmar malfunctions I knew enough to disable the alternator by unplugging the 4 pin connector on the Balmar 618 regulator before traveling any further. The following morning I plugged the Balmar unit back in and the whining sound and burning smell immediately returned. There is a NHTSA Safety Recall 23V-234, Campaign # 174 EKKO 12V Charging System, sent out by Winnebago for this very safety issue due to fires. This recall was completed during the time that the original owner had this 2022 Winnebago EKKO (prior to our purchasing this 2022 Winnebago EKKO in June 2024). There have been numerous failures on Balmar units that have had the campaign #174 recall completed, including ones performed at the factory. The Winnebago fix is obviously not working and is still an extreme fire issue.Read more
