While driving this car, I have experienced the car's auto-braking system. While driving on I-94, the traffic was slowing down due to activity ahead of me. Apparently, I did not slow down enough for the car's sensor, as the auto brakes engaged and "slammed" onto the brakes. The car behind me barely had time to react due to the auto-braking so hard on the brakes. Another instance of these auto bra
... kes engaging dangerously, as I am backing out of my driveway ( My home faces a corner and is a 3 way stop intersection) I am halfway out of my driveway when the car picks up there is a car behind me, however the vehicle is NOT behind me it is at the corner stop sign on the opposite side of the road. The brakes once again engaged in a very aggressive manner, throwing everything in the car onto the seats to the floor. I almost got T boned by a car because they had no clue what "I" was doing, or where I was going. Although this function is designed to assist drivers, it is a casualty waiting to happen. I'd rather drive my own car and brake myself than have a car do it for me. Especially in the manner this is engaging. There is no easing onto the brake; it's quite harsh and aggressive. This can lead to you being rear-ended in the long run.Read more

While driving on I-5 north by Castaic (exit 176A) the car displayed "electric system temporarily limited" then "critical electric fault" at which time it rapidly decelerated while on the freeway. The hazard lights were pressed but did not work. There was no shoulder and cars nearly rear ended our vehicle, with our family of 4 (including 2 kids) inside. We were able to navigate the vehicle to a s
... mall shoulder at the freeway exit and called CHP for support to ensure our safety while we seemed roadside assistance. Volvo roadside assistance contacted a tow truck and walked us through a "hard reset" of the vehicle. After about 15 minutes we were able to drive the car with a CHP escort off the freeway ramp to a nearby parking lot. The "electrical system temporarily limited" fault remained. Our car was towed to the nearest dealership where the fault was observed. At this point (8 calendar days later) no fix has been identified. This vehicle has had repeated electrical system faults since we leased in on 9/5/25 and has been serviced 3 previous times. This was the first time it stopped while driving.Read more

To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint to report a repeated and unresolved safety defect in my leased Volvo vehicle involving rear passenger door lock failure, which has resulted in minor children being trapped inside the vehicle on multiple occasions Vehicle Safety Issue: The left rear passenger door fails to open from both inside and outside, despite the child lock not being en
... gaged. This creates a serious safety risk, particularly during emergencies when occupants must exit the vehicle quickly. Incident History: [XXX]: Rear door would not open from inside or outside, trapping my two children (ages [XXX] and [XXX] ). At the same time, the infotainment system froze and the backup camera was not functioning. I reported this to Volvo service. [XXX]: The same issue occurred again, resulting in my children being locked in the rear seat. One child was experiencing leg pain, and it was extremely difficult and unsafe to remove him through the front door. The dealer stated the rear lock assembly was replaced. [XXX]: Despite prior repair and assurances, the rear door failed again, trapping my child inside the vehicle. I have video evidence showing the door cannot be opened from outside. In addition, on a separate occasion, the vehicle completely froze and could not be unlocked using either key. AAA was required to jump-start the vehicle, and I was informed that a required software installation had not occurred. Safety Concern: A rear passenger door that cannot be opened from inside or outside presents an immediate safety hazard, especially involving children, medical emergencies, accidents, or fire. A non-functional backup camera further increases the risk of injury while reversing. This issue has occurred three times, including after a component replacement, indicating a recurring defect rather than an isolated incident. I am reporting this issue so it can be reviewed for potential safety investigation and corrective action. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIRead more

On 01/04/2026, while operating a gas-powered 2024 Volvo XC40, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA) event while stationary at a red light. With the service brake fully depressed, the internal combustion engine began to surge and rev uncontrollably, making loud noises. The engine torque increased in direct response to increased brake pressure, eventually overco
... ming the braking system and forcing the vehicle forward into the 3-way intersection. Technical Details: Brake-Throttle Override (BTO) Failure: The vehicle’s safety logic failed to prioritize the brake signal over the uncommanded throttle increase. Shifter Interlock Malfunction: During the surge, the electronic gear selector was unresponsive, preventing shifting into Neutral (N) to disconnect power. Shifting capability only returned once the vehicle was brought to a forced stop. Prior Symptoms: Intermittent "idle flaring" and surging were noted 48 hours prior to the failure. Safety Risk: The vehicle moved into traffic against my intent and physical input, posing a high risk of collision. The car was towed by Volvo Road Assistance on 1/4/26 to the Volvo dealership later that evening. This incident mimics the "Powertrain Control System" defects currently documented in NHTSA Campaign 25V392 and the Becker v. Volvo class action, suggesting the software defect extends to ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) models. The car is currently at the Volvo Dealership for diagnostics. The service intake person has not provided an update on whether they have been able to duplicate the issue. I do not know what diagnostics have been performed on the car at this point. There were no warning signs or messages prior to the failure. Some minor surging had been noticed a couple of days before, but this latest incident was catastrophic and a safety risk. I felt trapped in my car.Read more

The crimping on the A/C hose from the firewall to the compressor failed and leaked all the freon from the system. This is a design flaw, the mounting location causes excess vibration in the hose leading to the crimping failure. There are countless forum posts and other complaints filed by owners of the same vehicle for the exact same A/C hose. This should be a recall from Volvo. It is a major safe
... ty issue for customers like me who live in a humid environment, without A/C the windshield can fog over and hinder visibility. I contacted Volvo Customer Care for reimbursement and was denied as my car was not under warranty. My car only has 40,000 miles on it and this part shouldnt fail in this manner, especially at my low mileage. I have since purchased their extended warranty as this part will eventually fail again (from the design flaw in A/C system mounting location) and I don't want to pay the large repair costs again. The NHTSA should investigate this with all owners of this year/make/model and they will find Volvo needs to declare a recall and reimburse owners for the repair costs.Read more

Component/System that failed: The engine (T5 Drive-E) experienced sudden loss of propulsion and entered reduced engine performance mode. The vehicle is currently available for inspection and was towed to an authorized Volvo dealer following the incident. How safety was put at risk: On July 3, 2025, while driving approximately 75 mph on a crowded interstate highway in rural Ohio with cruise contro
... l engaged, the vehicle suddenly and without warning lost propulsion. Traffic included semi-trucks and other vehicles, with limited shoulder availability. The sudden loss of acceleration at highway speed created an immediate risk of rear-end collision and left the vehicle unsafe to operate. Confirmation or reproduction: Prior to the failure, in July 2024 at approximately 92,000 miles, I reported abnormal oil consumption to an authorized Volvo dealer and raised a known Volvo service advisory related to oil consumption in the T5 Drive-E engine. The dealer acknowledged the advisory but refused testing, stating the vehicle did not meet Volvo’s internal threshold. After the failure, a service agent acknowledged that this issue is known to occur in this model at approximately this mileage. Inspections: The vehicle was serviced at an authorized Volvo dealer in Bethesda, Maryland just days prior to the incident. Following the failure, the vehicle was towed to an authorized Volvo dealer in Columbus, Ohio. Volvo Cars USA has not repaired the vehicle and denied a goodwill request. Warnings or symptoms prior to failure: There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the loss of propulsion. The engine warning light and a “Reduced Engine Performance” message appeared only after power was lost.Read more

From the beginning of my lease, the vehicle experienced repeated malfunctions of its safety and proximity sensor systems, including warning alerts and sensor-related failures. ... that the vehicle was subject to an active safety recall, which was never disclosed to me, even though the vehicle was serviced at the dealership on multiple occasions. Subsequently, the vehicle was involved in an accident that resulted in a total loss. Based on the unresolved sensor failures and the undisclosed recall, I believe these safety defects may have contributed to the accident. This complaint is submitted to report a serious safety concern and to request that NHTSA investigate whether similar vehicles may present a broader safety risk.Read more

I'm not sure if these are related incidents or not, but at the end of Nov. 2025 I was driving in heavy traffic when all of a sudden I noticed a warning light on the dash came on. Then as I kept going another light, and another, each one about a minute apart until all of the warning lights were on. Then the car started cutting out and then it just died. I had been making my way over out of traffic
... because of the warning lights all coming on, but the car died before I could get all the way over. I had to be pushed out of traffic and into a parking lot. I spent the next 4 hours trying to get it started, a mechanic I called said it was most likely the alternator. Being it was 10p I couldn't get it fixed until the next morning. I bought a new alternator and had the mechanic fix it the next day and everything was fine. No problems at all until about 3 weeks later when I came out of a store at 9pm and the car wouldn't start. I tried several times, it was turning over no problem, it had plenty of power but wouldn't start. After about an hour of trying it finally started up. I hadn't done anything just kept trying it. There were no warning lights, no nothing. It just started and ran fine. Now it has been about 3 weeks since that incident and it has been having many problems. It is completely unreliable and will die while I'm driving it. There is no warning lights that come on. I never know if or when it's going to do it. The check engine light will come on but when I took it to a shop to have them see what was wrong, the check engine light was not on. I have done this twice and both times the check engine light is off when I get there. It has died in the middle of traffic and starts right back up, it has done it many times and won't start up again for half an hour. There is no warning, no signs, it just does it. This of course is very unsafe and dangerous. I am at a loss as to what to do. I read there is a problem with this car and a sensor that goes bad.Read more

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was provided with the same DTC and informed that the transmission had failed and was leaking fluid. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. Upon further investigation, the contact learned that the failure might be related to missing bolts on the transmission accumulator. We are reporting two safety-related concerns involving a new 2026 INFINITI QX60 Sport. At delivery, a linear abrasion approximately 42 inches in length was present across the front roof panel and was not disclosed prior to sale. When this condition was raised, the dealership dismissed it by text message without performing a physical inspection. At a later date, the dealership applied a coating or
... protection product over the roof panel despite the presence of visible damage and potential surface contamination. Due to the length, location, and linear nature of the abrasion across a primary roof panel, we are concerned the damage may be consistent with transport-related strap or tie-down contact, raising questions about panel integrity, corrosion protection, and the vehicle’s condition as represented at sale. We are also reporting a child safety equipment concern. The dealership applied a chemical interior or fabric protection product while child safety seats and/or booster seats remained installed in the vehicle. The seats were not removed, and no warning, consent, or disclosure was provided. Child restraint systems are federally regulated safety devices, and chemical exposure — including overspray or vapor — may affect harness webbing, foam, or material performance in a manner not evaluated under FMVSS requirements. We submit these concerns in good faith for NHTSA’s safety review and tracking.Read more

I am writing to formally document a mechanical failure that occurred while I was driving on a major freeway. While traveling at highway speed, I suddenly heard loud, abnormal knocking and banging noises originating from the engine. Almost immediately, the vehicle lost power and became difficult to control while maintaining speed with surrounding traffic. Within moments, dashboard warning indicato

Due to concerns for safety and to prevent further damage, I safely maneuvered the vehicle out of traffic and shut the engine off as soon as possible. After stopping, the engine was able to restart; however, it continued to produce concerning mechanical noises. The vehicle was no longer safely operable and required towing. Following inspection by two separate repair facilities, including a Honda dealership, both independently concluded that the engine had experienced a rod bearing failure. At the time of the incident, the vehicle had approximately 176,000 miles. Despite the mileage, the vehicle has been well maintained, including completion of the full 100,000-mile service and tune-up. This failure occurred without warning and created a hazardous situation due to the sudden loss of power while traveling at freeway speeds. I am concerned because Honda Pilot model years 2016, 2018, and 2019 have had recalls involving rod bearing failures. Given the circumstances and the nature of this failure, I believe Honda should consider replacing the engine as a gesture of good faith. I purchased a Honda based on the company’s reputation for long-lasting and reliable engines. Please let me know if any additional information or documentation is required.Read more

I was driving on the internstate and my blind spot indicator came on and stayed on even though there were no cars in my blind spot. I needed to change lanes and tried to despite the blind spot indicator being on and the automatic collision avoidance system put me back into the lane I was in. I had to fight the vehicle to get over to be able to exit the interstate.

The car in front of me, 8 to 10 feet ahead, slow down and turn on their blinker. My car slammed so hard on its break. It threw me and my dog forward. It never gave us a warning until it slammed. There was plenty of time for me to slow down, but also the car was partially already in the turn lane. There is then 223 seconds where my car will not move forward. I decided to clean off my windshield with the windshield wiper spray and wipers and noticed my windshield would not turn on at all. I heard no noise from the motor coming on nothing happened when I attempted to turn them on. I knew rain was coming in the next few days so I was worried I was going to have visibility issues. Contacted the dealer who stated they had no loaner available. I had to driv
... e in the rain with no windshield wipers. When I finally dropped my vehicle off to get serviced and explained the issue, the tech explained this has been a common with issue with many people especially because of the snow, he states “people keep turning the wipers on with snow on the windshield.” He also said his 6 month old Volvo had the same issue. However, I have never turned my windshield wipers on after snow without removing the snow off first so this was not the case. With multiple issues with different people, the tech issue’s with his own 6 month old car it sounded like a recall issue to me. I was told the motor had burned out on my 2024 Volvo XC60 that I have had for just under 2 years and it was no longer under warranty because I was 1,000 miles over my warranty. No error messages appeared on my screen to let me know there were any issues with my windshield wipers at all. This is a huge safety issue, i was not made aware there was an issue if the rain began after I was driving I could’ve been in accident hurt myself or/and others. I know there is a recall for Volvo trucks for windshield wiper motors.Read more
