Car emergency stops with no reason. Dangerous. Will cause accident. Needs recalled.
Incident date: Jun 12, 2023
I was driving from Palmdale, CA up to Mojave, CA at 7:05PM on June 16. The car was close to Rosamond, CA on the highway when it engaged FULL brakes. I started in the right lane, the autopilot was ON and set to 79MPH. The only cars visible on the highway were my car and the car in front of me. There were no other cars immediately visible to me or autopilot in front of me or behind me - other than
... us two. My car was traveling faster than the car in front of me, so at ~3-5 car lengths I started a left turn signal to merge into the left lane, and overtake the small car (silver Toyota?) in front of me in the left lane. When I started the left turn signal the autopilot disengaged as expected. I got in the left lane then stopped the signal, and turned ON autopilot @ 79MPH. My car started overtaking the car in the right lane, the car beside me was now in my right blind spot. Then all of a sudden my car engaged FULL brakes and went from 79 MPH to maybe 30MPH? As a reminder there were no cars in front of me or behind me. The other car was to my right. I quickly assessed the situation to confirm I wasn't going to be rear ended by the car to my right and pushed the gas peddle as hard as I could to accelerate back to 70+ MPH. I checked to see the sun was behind me so the car's cameras were definitely not blinded, I sped far enough away from the car next to me to take a photo of the area I was driving in. Please see the photo attached to see the condition of the sky and to confirm the roads were completely empty when the tesla decided to brake in its full capacity for what I believe to be no reason at all. I fully believe if there was someone behind me in the left lane even at a safe distance I would have been inadvertently rear ended as there was no reason or cause for the car to be breaking that hard. I'm sure Tesla can provide telemetry data from my car to corroborate my version of the events.Read more

Incident date: Jun 13, 2023
My car continued to move even with the brake pedal pressed, and collision avoidance systems did not turn on. This is very unsafe - a car that doesn’t respond when the driver brakes puts everyone else on the road in danger. The first time this happened was on Sep. 6, 2022. I was driving on the highway when the car in front of me stopped abruptly. I started to brake. The distance between our cars
... was large enough that I should have been able to stop safely, but my car continued to move. I was unable to stop the vehicle and crashed into the car in front of me. At the time, I thought it was my fault. Although there was damage to my car, luckily no one was injured. (This was resolved, and my car was repaired, with help from Shelter Insurance.) On June 13, 2023, I was pulling up to a red light behind another vehicle. I stepped on the brakes and my car jolted to a stop (I had to push the pedal down very hard to get my car to start slowing down). Then my car began to move again, even though I had not released the brake pedal. It was moving at about 1-2 mph. My car got so close to the car in front of us that the parking sensors began to beep. We would have run into the stationary vehicle if I hadn’t put my car in Neutral. When the light switched to green I put my car in Drive again. At the next intersection the brakes were back to normal, and my car was driving as before. I had my car towed to the local Volvo dealership. After an inspection, I was told they hadn’t found anything wrong. I left my car at the dealership for further investigation, and was given a loaner. I don’t know if there is a connection, but both times this happened, I had been driving on the highway at high speeds (70 mph) for a few hours before trying to brake.Read more

The Uber app is set up to notify drivers of upcoming passenger offers and does so with a tone. This is done a good share of the time when you already have a passenger in the car and done repeatedly until you accept your next passenger. I have contacted Uber about this and was told it is an advantage to the driver to keep them under a trip. I can agree with that except for it is horribly dangerous
... . It takes your attention away from the road and puts it on the phone. Then you have 10 seconds to read the offer before it goes away. In doing so it not only distracts you but tends to keep you distracted. Recently Uber has added a new feature where the app wants a driver to confirm construction areas again flagging the app with a tone. Worse yet this happens while you are already in a construction area and requests an on-phone response that the construction area is still active. I have had several near accidents due to these app distractions. I have been an Uber driver for 10 months and have been a commercial driver since 1974. This is an extremely dangerous situationRead more

The Forward Collision Warning system in my 2018 Audi SQ5 is meant to autonomously apply the vehicle's brakes in the event the car senses an oncoming forward collision. At least five different times over the past five months, my vehicle's Forward Collision Warning system activated and applied the brakes at seemingly random times when there was no possible threat of an oncoming forward collision be
... cause, in each instance, the vehicle was being driven on multi-lane highways with no other vehicles, barriers, or any other frontal hazard within a quarter-mile of my vehicle. In four of the five instances, the vehicle was traveling at speed at or around 65 mph and, when the Forward Collision Warning system was activated without warning, the vehicle rapidly its speed to below 10 mph, which caused me and my passengers to be thrown forward and our seatbelts burned our shoulders and laps. In the other instance, the same occurred while traveling 45 mph. There is no warning or indication of malfunction prior to or following these instances. I''ve run multiple OBD2 scans on the vehicle, none of which have shown any problems with the Frontal Warning Collision system, or any other vehicle system.Read more

After ota software update, the vehicles braking systems (abs, traction control) and driver assistance systems(lane assistance, adaptive cruise control, one pedal driving mode) no longer functioned normally. The vehicle displayed warning information that read “stop safely, brake failure”; on the instrument cluster. This put my family and others at risk by changing the cars behavior by no
... longer operating in a one pedal mode and disabling common safety features like abs, traction control as well as the more advanced collision avoidance systems. If I had attempted to operate the pilot assistance it could have easily turned into an incident. The car is now at the dealership, and it sounds like a recent ota “failed to sequence properly” which might have damaged the hardware, or possibly just the software needs to be reflashed, but the technician made it sound commonplace from the last update. The vehicle is not available for inspection it is being remedied at the dealership.Read more

The two systems that failed are the airbag release on the front passenger side and the stabilitrak system. Both systems show error lights on the dash. The front seat passenger does not have airbag protection. The stabilitrak system error light appears intermittently and when the traction system goes off the car brakes almost stop the car while driving. We go to Royal Buick in Tucson, Arizona.
... We worked with Germaine Kendrick. I've attached the dealer service invoice dated April 14, 2023. The invoice summarized the problem and stated that 1) a new seatbelt assesmbly is needed and 2) the service technician states that they can not replicate or repair the traction problems. Today is June 11, 2023. We are still waiting for the seatbelt assembly to "arrive". There is no solution for the traction system. We have phoned and texted 4 times. The most recent conversation on June 5th with "Chris" was interesting; Chris stated that the seatbelt part was NEVER ORDERED and furthermore, is not needed to repair the airbag warning light problem.Read more

I want to apologize for the lengthy description but I feel this is quite possibly the most critical area to not be vague in. **This problem occurs every time, NOT an intermittent condition.** REAR SEAT/CENTER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR; will not extend out from the retractor. The belt is locked in the fully retracted (unoccupied) position. The vehicle can be on a flat surface, an incline, or a declined
... position when this occurs. There's nothing obstructing any part of the belt and retractor. In order to use that position/seat belt, I must repeatedly (sometimes in excess of 20 times) pull the belt in different rates of speed ie. pull the belt very slowly, pull it normally, pull it very fast by basically snatching the belt. I've even tried to help the belt further retract into the retractor by slowly feeding the belt rearward. There's no 1 action that seems to work better than the other. Furthermore, at times, the belt (once able to be used) will not hold its position to keep the occupant from moving forward in a panic stop or even by snatching the belt to check its operation. The buckle does function as designed so this problem is strictly related to the shoulder belt not keeping the occupant secure. Apon visual inspection, there are no noted frays, stains, foreign objects, or signs of attempted (prior) repairs. I also want to note that I am an ASE certified Master Mechanic so I am well versed on the operation, diagnosis and replacement of seat belts/retractors/sinchers buckets etc. I'm asking for assistance by any information you can share with me to remedy this issue. This is my "daily driver" routinely using the back seat for my children. I don't want to replace it with a used part because I believe this is a common issue for this platform vehicle. Thank you for your time and assistance!Read more

On Friday, June 2, 2023, I was traveling at highway speed in the left lane south on Interstate 15 just south of Temecula, California. With no warning my vehicle speed started dropping quickly, and did not respond to pressing the accelerator pedal. I immediately started moving lanes to the right, as my speed quickly decelerated to 30 mph. Luckily, I was able to make it to the shoulder safely. Th
... ere was an exit up ahead, so I continued to drive as my speed continued to decelerate, in the hopes that I could make the exit and have a safe place in which to stop and contact Tesla service. I was able to make that exit, but by the time I got there my speed had decelerated to 20 mph, and as I continued up the exit to a wider shoulder, the car rolled to a stop and would not move again. The car battery had been fully charged before I left home, and the indicator showed over 180 miles of range available. I contacted Tesla, and followed their instructions to attempt to reboot the car, but was not able to. I then arranged for a tow to the Tesla Service Center in Temecula, where the car is now, and we are awaiting a diagnosis. A similar event happened to us in this vehicle in December of 2022; however, at that time the max speed of the car was able to be maintained at 60 mph, and we were able to make it to our destination safely (10-15 minutes of driving.) Once we arrived at that destination and stopped the car, the car would not restart, and it was towed to a Tesla service center in Burbank, CA where repairs were made. The car has functioned normally until yesterday. I feel this incident definitely put myself, and other drivers at risk. A car suddenly dropping speed to 30 mph on a freeway is very dangerous, and should I have been in a situation where I was not able to change lanes quickly and get off the road, a serious accident could have occurred.
