... hield repaired on 12/24, paid for by insurance. Found out in the meantime that Acura had an issue with 2019-2023 RDX exploding rear windshields due to a possible faulty rear defroster. I had just turned on my rear defroster before this happened to me. They issued a TSB to dealerships. I never got a recall. Contacted Acura for insurance reimbursement and wanted to have my electrical system checked at their expense. After several conversations, I was denied. Case was closed last week. Although my vehicle was a 2019, my vin was not included in campaign. I also was not privy to what the exact recall said as my vin was not included. I was told I should’ve brought it to a Honda dealer for inspection and repair. Why would I do that when I didn’t know there was an Acura issue? I live in the Adirondacks where it snows every day. Time was of the essence. Now I will not use my rear defroster in fear it may happen again. I also will not use my heated seats as I am afraid there is an electrical issue. I can live without the heated seats but driving without a rear defroster in the North Country is not exactly safe. I had asked for them to broaden their recall as it was obvious the same thing happened to my truck but was denied. I have googled and found there a quite a few people who this has happened to, one woman has it happen twice within three months. I feel this is an extremely dangerous issue that Acura will not take accountability for. I also have not had recall done as the nearest dealer is an hour away. And getting out during one of the 7 cleanings, I almost slipped and fell. It took me 48 minutes to get home. A trip that usually takes 25! The HID headlights on my other truck don't have this problem. And the aftermarket LED headlights on another vehicle of mine have built in heating elements. You would think the OEM would've thought of this option but, they don't offer it! I feel so defeated because I can't rely on a car that I need for my livelihood. I did not cause nor ask for this, but Ford is not helping alleviate the ripple effects that this caused my family. What's worse is that when I spoke with Ford in 12/27/2024, they acknowledged that this only a band aid, not a definite solution for the problem. I don't think that I will have any more money in the future to deal with something they know may catch on fire again. It is so immoral. I would like to also add that I purchased an extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle in 10/2020. Since I am now over the miles stipulated, Ford will not budge. I have experienced engine failure in my 2014 Silverado 6.2L on 3 separate occasions. All caused by the AFM system. Rockers lock into the wrong position while transforming from 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder operation. The first two occurrences bent lifters and caused a failure to the catalytic converter. ... hird occasion the rockers locked into the wrong position, bent push rods, damaged the cam shaft and caused a failure in the catalytic converter. It was taken to the same GM service department at Lou Fusz Chevrolet. My 5 year warranty had expired and GM refused to cover the parts they had previously replaced a year prior. I was quoted approximately $10k for repairs and $16k for full engine replacement. After some back and forth with the service department manager I requested to speak with the lead mechanic. He informed me that it was an AFM system problem he was very familiar with. He stated to me that I would be better off taking it to a private shop and bypassing the AFM system as he was “working on” 10-15 vehicles a month with the same issue. At the time I had reached out to GM corporate about the issue and I did not receive a correspondence. I have all of the paperwork and receipts and all other service records dating back to my purchase of the vehicle in 2018.Read more
