VEHICLE HESITATES UPON ACCERLERATION , ALMOST TO THE POINT IT FEELS AS THOUGH IT IS GOING TO STALL. I HAD THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL VOLVO DEALER BACK IN NOVEMEBER OF 2004, BUT AFTER $700.00 IN DIAGNOSTIC CHARGES NO PROBLEM WAS DETECTED.

ABS AND TRACS OFF INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE ON. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS FAILING ABS CONTROL MODULE. DEALER STATED THAT ABS DOES NOT WORK WHILE INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE ON, BUT BRAKES DO. WITH INDICATOR LIGHTS ON, THE SAFETY FEATURE OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND TRACTION CONTROL ARE COMPROMISED.

THE CAR WAS SHAKING WHEN STARTED. IT ALSO HAD A HORRIBLY LOUD NOISE. I CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP BUT THEY WERE CLOSED SO I HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC IN MY TOWN. HE CHECKED THE SYSTEM AND SAID THE THROTTLE WAS DEFECTIVE AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE THIS DONE BY WARRANTY FROM THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP. WHEN I CALLED THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP IN SANTA ROSA, CA. ... LD BE CAUSED BY A DIRTY THROTTLE AND I SHOULD HAVE THE CAR CHECKED FIRST TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. MY MECHANIC CHECKED THIS AND IT COST ME $129.35 FOR HIM TO TROUBLE SHOOT THE SITUATION TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS A WARRANTY ISSUE. HE THEN CALLED THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE TO ALEX IN SERVICE AND TOLD HIM THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE DEFECT. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP/SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY CHECKED IT AND SAID A PART IN THE THROTTLE WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THAT PART AND THEN HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ETM SYSTEM. THEY HAD PROBLEMS DOWNLOADING THE NEW SOFTWARE BUT FINALLY WERE ABLE TO GET IT TO RUN. THEY GAVE ME A LOANER CAR BUT WOULDN'T PAY FOR MY CHARGES TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. ($129.00). ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM IN MY 2000 VOLVO S70 NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE OWNER DID NOT HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE AND THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE. THEN ABOUT 9 MONTHS LATER, THE OWNER EXPERIENCED THE SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING/COMING ON TO THE OFF RAMP, AND MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. THE OWNER TRIED TO SPEED UP. THERE WAS A FEELING OF COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER AT 3000 RPMS. THE OWNER PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THERE WAS NO POWER AFTER 3000 RPMS. THERE WAS A FEELING OF THE CAR HAVING ONLY ONE GEAR. THE OWNER COASTED OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT WAS FINE FOR A WHILE. THE PROBLEM IS STAYING THE SAME NOW, NOT GETTING WORSE. SINCE A SECOND MECHANIC (NOT AFFILIATED WITH VOLVO) STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO DO THE REPAIRS, WE DECIDED TO CONTACT ANOTHER VOVLO DEALERSHIP. THE REPAIR OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND ETM "RELOAD" WAS PERFORMED BY A VOLVO OF FORT WASHTINGTON, PA AT A COST OF OVER $800 ON AUGUST 17, 2005. AFTER READING THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT NHTSA RECEIVED ON THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM AND THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY, WE DECIDED TO HAVE THE REPAIR PERFORMED. WE DID CONTACT VOLVO IN ROCKLEIGH, NJ VIA EMAIL AND RECEIVED AN INITIAL RESPONSE FROM A MR. JOHN WILLETS REQUESTING INFORMATION ON OUR VIN NUMBER AND MILEAGE. I WAS DRIVING MY VLOLVO S80 ON 07/10/2005 ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I COULD BARELY OPERATE IT OVER 30 MILES AN HOUR. I GOT STOPPED BY A STATE POLICEMAN AND GOT TICKET FOR OPERATING UNDER 30 MILES/HOUR AND NEGLIGENT OPERATION. I'M SCHEFULED FOR AN APPEAL HEARING. IT RAN MUCH BETTER, BUT THE ETS LIGHT WAS STILL ON. AFTER PULLING BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY, EVERYTHING WAS OK FOR AWHILE, BUT I RAN INTO PROBLEMS WHEN I HIT SOME SLOWING TRAFFIC. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE FROM THE SLOWDOWN THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND. IT WAS AS IF I HADN'T JUST PRESSED THE PEDAL. I NURSED IT TO A VOLVO DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE THAT DAY. 3) THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AFTER DEALERSHIP FIRST PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE ENGINE. THE DIAGNOSTIC SHOWED 5 LINE ITEMS FOR THE "THROTTLE UNIT, INTERNAL FAULT..." I HAVE A COPY OF THE PRINT OUT OF THIS REPORT. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR ABOUT 150 HIGHWAY MILES SINCE THE REPAR.
