MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR VOLVO XC (2001) BACK FROM THE GROCERY STORE. IN EXITING THE STORE PARKING LOT SHE HAD MAKE A LEFT TURN ONTO RT. 24W IN MENDHAM, NJ FROM A STOP SIGN. AS SHE GOT ON TO THE SINGLE LANE HIGHWAY THE CAR STALLED LEAVING HER WITHOUT POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF A SINGLE LANE HIGHWAY WITH OUR 2 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK SEAT. INCOMING TRAFFIC SUDDENLY HAD TO COME TO A STOP IN ORDER NOT
... TO HIT HER CAR. SHE WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART IT AND MAKE THE 5 MINUTE TRIP BACK HOME. THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO MAKE THE SLIGHT INCLINE UP THE DRIVEWAY. THE NEXT MORNING I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND TAKE IT TO THE VOLVO DEALER. ALL ALONG THE TRIP THE FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL ANY MINUTE. I KEPT A CONSTANT SPEED AND DID NOT TAKE ANY CHANCES WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION OR PASSING. AFTER THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT LOOKED AT THE CAR I WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR COST ME $1004.52. (I KEPT THE REPAIR INVOICE) THE CAR HAD 56157 MILES ON IT AND HAD JUST COME OFF THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. I CALLED VOLVO NORTH AMERICA TO COMPLAIN AND THEY SAID SOMEBODY WOULD GET BACK TO ME. I THEN GOT A CALL FROM THE DEALER. APPARENTLY VOLVO PASSED THE BUCK THE DEALER AND ALL THEY TOLD ME WAS THAT THEY SIMPLY REPAIRED MY CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IDLING PROPERLY. WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, THE ENGINE WOULD SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN. WHEN STARTING TO MOVE FROM A STOP, THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD AS THE ENGINE SPEED INCREASED. THE USE TESTING OF THIS KEY MUST HAVE BEEN NON-EXISTENT AS I HAVE LOST ONE KEY WITHIN 60 DAYS OF OWNERSHIP (COST ME $60, COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SINCE DEALER NORMALLY CHARGES 2 HOURS LABOR TO PROGRAM KEY). NOW I HAVE MINE HOOKED TOGETHER WITH SAFETY WIRE. VOLVO WILL NOT RESPOND TO REPEATED EMAILS, CALLS. DEALER WON'T ADDRESS ISSUE AT ALL. I CANNOT BE THE ONLY PERSON. MY WIFES KEY DOES THE SAME THING. CAR COASTED INTO GAS STATION, MOTORIST PHONED AAA ROAD SERVICE AND CAR WAS TOWED 1 HOUR LATER TO SEGNA VOLVO NEAR COLUMBUS, OHIO. 9/7/05 SEGNA MOTORS SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS TO OWNER THAT CAR TODAY STARTS FINE, TEST DRIVES FINE AND NO COMPUTER CODES ARE SHOWING UP IN THE COMPUTER'S DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. THEY SAY THE CAR SEEMS FINE, YET THEY ARE PLANNING TO CONTACT VOLVO CORPORATION FOR A THE COMPANY'S TECHNICAL ADVICE ON HOW TO PROCEED. 1) IN THE 6 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE WE HAD NOTICED WORSENING SYMPTOMS OF WHAT WE NOW KNOW IS THE FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE MODULE (ETM) IN OUR 2001 VOLVO XC70. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 VOLVO S70. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 55-70 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE MODULE LIGHT (ETM) ILLUMINATED. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE MODULE HAD FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL/DIE AND LOSE POWER. *AK *MR *NM

THE AUTOMOBILE WOULD BEGIN TO SHAKE AND STALL WHEN APPROACHING LOWER SPEEDS. ALSO WHEN ACCELERATING, THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE A DELAYED RESPONSE AND NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. THE ETS WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON JUST PRIOR TO THE EVENT. AFTER THE CAR WAS RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE FINE UNTIL THE NEXT OCCURRENCE. ENGINE THROTTLE MODULE ON 2001 VOLVO, MODEL V70, IS DEFECTIVE. ENGINE RPM SURGES BACK AND FORTH AND CAR SOMETIMES STALLS. TODAY, SEPT. 7, 2005, RPM INCREASED DRAMATICALLY BY SEVERAL THOUSAND FOR NO REASON. TOOK TO VOLVO 1 WEEK AGO AND THEY WANTED 834.00 + TAX TO FIX. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 53,000 MILES. PART IS DEFECTIVE.*JB
