I recently got the 3.6.4 software update that was supposed to fix the recall for the constant rear backup camera issues in the Polestar 2. The problem seems to have gotten even worse after the software update. I often have to wait 1-2 minutes while sitting in reverse for the camera to sometimes come on. If I wait maybe 30 seconds, it sometimes comes back, but I can’t just stop in the middle of the street when I’m backing out of my driveway or a parking spot. The rear windshield already has very poor visibility, so I heavily rely on the backup cam to know what’s around me. Secondarily, the audio drivers seem to constantly malfunction, so I can’t hear any beeping that might come from the rear auto-brake/sensor functionality. Can’t even hear my turn signals when the audio is malfunctioning, too. No collisions or physical damage, but backing up feels like a significant safety hazard. My alley has small kids, and I need to be able to see behind my car. When the camera just freezes midway through backing out of my driveway, I’m kind of stuck. Polestar has released software updates to “fix” this twice, and it has only remained the same or gotten worse. I really think they need to do a hardware update on the central panel, as it seemingly can’t handle many functions that need some CPU power (e.g. it can also take upwards of a minute to load the map app)Read more

Over the past 5 years, this vehicle has experienced three major powertrain failures: two complete transmission failures and, most recently, a catastrophic engine failure. Each failure has occurred well before it should in terms of mileage, and despite repairs, the issues continue. After this third failure, Hyundai offered to cover only 50% of the repair costs—which seems to acknowledge some degree of corporate responsibility—but we declined, as this is a relatively new vehicle and the problem is clearly systemic. We paid the second total transmission replacement completely out of pocket. A quick Google search and outreach to social media revealed that hundreds of Hyundai owners (across multiple models from this era) are experiencing very similar engine issues, many with official recalls for consumption, but there being no official recall or widespread support for Palisade owners. Personal stories suggest a clear pattern. The original dealership that sold the vehicle listed it as Certified Pre-Owned, but has since changed ownership and retains no records, which has made verifying the warranty status impossible. Hyundai corporate and customer service have been extremely difficult to work with—there are multiple active case numbers, no internal communication, and the local dealership doesn’t coordinate with national reps. This vehicle has spent over 100 days in service across these failures. I’ve tried every route available—dealership, corporate support, and online forums. Due to the nature of my situation, my case was escalated to their RCM where I was told that nothing could be done. I asked about a loaner vehicle or a rental reimbursement until the parts arrive and they told me it was not possible. I find this to be extremely unreasonable given the severity of the recall. There are deaths and serious injuries linked to this defect and I am in constant fear when I drive my vehicle. No one should have to knowingly take this kind of risk every time they commute to work. A Ford certified mechanic stated my Flex Plate was cracked and it begin breaking off and how I needed a new starter as well leaving the car inoperable. While driving at a sustained speed of 65 mph on a highway, the steering wheel suddenly locked aligned on right side without warning. I also got hurt in my right hand although no airbag was deployed. This incident appears to be the result of a manufacturer defect or electronic failure, not driver error or wear and tear.
