While driving at highway speeds (70 mph+/-), my diesel powered vehicle 'derated' (I believe that is the term) for no apparent reason. An engine light came on related to a DEF system malfunction. I can provide the code later. My vehicle instantly went from 70 mph to 15 mph on a crowded interstate, on an inside lane. With some difficulty I managed to make across three lanes to the shoulder and turne
... d off the vehicle. After a quick inspection, finding nothing obvious, I proceeded down the shoulder to a gas station. I tried to top off my DEF tank, but it was full. After an hour the engine light went off and the vehicle drove normal. So I'm back on the highway. I went another hour, the engine light came on and the vehicle derated at highway speed. Same white knuckle lane crossing. This time I went to a truck repair shop, who diagnosed it as an issue with the DEF system. They reset the engine light and the vehicle seem to drive normally again. This time we management to make it home without an additional incident. I went to a local diesel mechanic (Ford refused to honor the warranty) who replaced the DEF pump assembly. I think it was specifically the float arm, or the mechanism that measure DEF tank levels. It cost over $1000. While I have several issues with the situation, the primary one is that a perfectly sound vehicle purposely derating the speed from 70 mph to 15 mph in heavy traffic on an exceptionally hot day. Going across three lanes of interstate traffic decelerating to 15 mph, was more than a little scary. Someone could have easily been killed. And the fact that this system is designed to shut you down over exhaust emissions is insane and dangerous. The easy analogy would be derating a gas vehicle over an oxygen sensor failure. I'm hoping that if enough other people complain about this, the government will fix a problem they created. The craziest thing about this is my DEF pump was actually working.Read more

There is a problem with the dual clutch transmission on this 2017 Hyundai Tucson. There was a class action suit filed 2016 for transmission defects including the hesitation and shuddering issue and also grinding noises. I purchased this vehicle in 2020 with only 6600 (yes, hundred) miles not knowing of any problem or issues. 2023 in Tucson AZ when the weather started getting very warm end May,
... June I started noticing a bit of hesitation, sometimes like a grinding noise. This was not happening all of the time but from the reviews it happens when it gets warm. The shaking or shuddering as they call it and hesitation is very prominent and continuous now. When I had my car in for oil change in Tucson at the Hyundai dealer the service manager even drove it and said it was the dual clutch transmission. I asked about replacing the transmission then and he said that I did not have a warranty. That was another issue as I was told by Hyundai corporate before buying the vehicle that the 100,000 warranty would transfer to me. I found out in July it did not. I opened a case with Hyundai service who contacted Eastside Hyundai and I even got a call from the svc mngr who drove the vehicle. He said that Hyundai would not end up covering it all even if they said they would, they may have to have car for awhile and I would need a rental, and anything else negative about the situation. That manager never called back so caseworker called another dealer numerous times and said that they could check out my car in November. This vehicle is getting worse and possibly a danger. Hyndai take is November, take it or leave it and thats all they can do. This can cause long term damage to the engine and other parts. I need some help with this if possible before resulting in litigation. Are you able to advise on this issue and if you have even heard about. No accident has occured with this vehicle YET. I have approximately 21,000 mile on my vehicle now.Read more

After approximately 16 months of proper operation, the instrument cluster in the dash would no longer dim after dark. With this lighting malfunction, the instrument cluster is extremely bright after dark and compromises the driver's night vision re

In order to safely operate the vehicle after dark, one must prop a piece of paper or similar mask over the instrument cluster, obscuring view of the speedometer and other dash warning lights. I have had the vehicle inspected by the dealer where it was purchased and the diagnosis was the same as reported by many other owners: "There is no known cause and thereby, NO KNOWN FIX". On August 4th 2023 we drove from home in Cedar Rapids to our daughter’s in Cottage Grove Wisconsin for a family event. Nearing Madison, somewhere in the area of Verona the Battery Warning Symbol came on in the instrument display. It was intermittent and we continued our journey to our daughter’s house in Cottage Grove. We called AAA and a “tow” truck came. The driver made a visual assess
... ment of the condition of the battery and terminals and serpentine belt and looked at our multimeter readings of battery voltage. The alternator did cut in and the battery voltage went up. He advised that we continue driving it. It made a couple of two-mile trips to and from our hotel in Cottage Grove, with no display of the battery warning icon on the instrument display. On Sunday August 6 2023 we set off for home. The battery icon was not displayed. About 15 miles from departure while we were on the Madison Beltline Highway the following occurred without warning: •The central navigation display went blank •A number of different warnings came up on the instrument display •Power steering was lost •The emergency warning flashers and the direction indicators wouldn’t work •A lot of warning icons were displayed on the instrument display This was absolutely unacceptable and life shorteningly frightening. I won’t use curse words or s**t here but use your imagination. We were able to get to the hard shoulder without crashing. Surprisingly the engine was still running and we were very close to an exit (Fish Hatchery Road) so we were able to limp and wrestle it to a business’ parking area.Read more

Touch capacitive buttons on the steering wheel and doors are major safety hazard. The touch buttons on the steering wheel for critical functions like blinkers, headlights, wipers and the horn are all moving with the steering wheel (so you have to look down to locate these critical functions while still moving, especially if you are turning at all), and worse, these buttons sometimes fail to activ
... ate even when you do push them. I have several times tried to turn on my blinker for a sudden lane change due to a hazard ahead, and the blinker does not respond / activate. My wife was driving and someone started to run a stop sign in front of us - I yelled "HIT THE HORN!" and she replied with "I CAN'T FIND IT!!!" (we were driving on a bend in the road, the steering wheel was not in the neutral position, and the horn is a tiny touch capacitive button). The button on the driver door to get out is the same or very similar, and I have a 30 second video I can forward you of how this button can fail to respond. In the video, you can see the tip of my finger bend when I first touch the button, I move my finger all over and around the button, and nearly 15 seconds later, the button finally responds and opens the door. The driver door also pops out about 10 degrees when it does open, then becomes very stiff and you have to push hard to get the door to open the rest of the way. The button for the headlights is also a safety issue - if you push and hold the headlight button for too long, it locks the high beams on, instead of just flashing them (or a long duration flash). When you push the headlight button, a menu pops up on the bottom center portion of the center screen, that will allow you to toggle automatic high beams on and off, but when moving, it is only there for 2-3 seconds, and the buttons are extremely small, making it hard to change settings for the headlights safely (must look away from the road, and try to hit the small buttons while moving / bouncing around).Read more

A Recall Repair (19S07) was performed on 4/24/2023 at which time the truck had 161711 miles. Prior to the Recall Repair I had not experienced any issues at all. I had only brought the truck into Ford Service for a different repair at which time they took care of the Recall (19S07). On 7/9/2023 the truck would not start (No Crank/No Start) A Tow Truck Service was called at which time confirmin

Later that week, we experienced this strange issue again (intermittent no crank) and the truck was driven into a local service center where no service codes were showing because the truck was in working condition. Out of concern for the safety of the future reliability of this intermittent starting, the mechanic suggested we consider changing the batter cables, and felt considering the age of the truck that we could consider changing the starter. With concern, I decided to move forward with those repairs. Two days after the new battery cables and a new starter was placed, the truck once again would not start. I had the truck towed back to this mechanic where he was then able to confirm it was an issue with the Transmission Lead Frames communication and that the truck thinks it is in park. I then called the Ford Service Department where the Transmission Lead Frame Recall was performed to report the issue and was told that indeed the recall repair/or issues with the recall could be the issue, so I had the truck towed back to them where they confirmed the issue and reported that this issues were considered part of the recall issue but now that my truck was out of the mileage warranty, I would have to pay for the repairs. The truck had 161711 miles when the original recall was performed. It had 167174 miles when the new repairs were done. There should be a warranty on the recall repair work performed. I have already paid for the repairs. Can you help me?Read more
