The incident happened on 11/2/2023 at 8:40 AM ET. I was at the speed of about 25-30 miles/hour to drop my daughter at preschool. Suddenly, I received an alert on my dashboard saying "Brake System Problem". When I applied brakes, the vehicle wouldn't stop. I pressed brake pedal very hard and kept it that way for a while. The vehicle gradually came to a stop but it took long for a vehicle to come to
... a stop. It was a 'brake failure experience'. If there was a downward slope and/or if I was at a higher speed, the vehicle would have gone out-of-control. I don't recall if I felt automatic acceleration when this incident happen. After vehicle came to a stop, I immediately engaged the parking brake, stopped the ignition, called emergency road-side assistance and got the vehicle towed to a dealership. This incident definitely put me, my 3 year old daughter, and others on the road at risk. Dealership inspected the vehicle. They found an error code that confirms the occurrence of the problem but they are unable to duplicate the issue. They don't know why it happened, nor can they guarantee that this will not happen again. They said they followed manufacturers guidelines to troubleshoot the problem. Since they cannot find why it happened, they don't have anything to fix, and advised me to pay the labor charges and pick my vehicle. I reported this issue to American Honda. Case # 14229789. They were concerned that the brakes should have responded well since the model is not hybrid or fully electric. This makes me feel more nervous. American Honda said they are going to investigate this and will get in touch with the dealership where the vehicle currently is. This vehicle was inspected and serviced at the same Honda dealership about 3 weeks ago. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained. All routine maintenances have been done at Honda dealership consistently on time. The vehicle has relatively new battery from 2022. I request you to look into the matter and advise.Read more

I heard what sounded like rocks under my car so I took it into Firestone to have them look at it and they let me know they could not even align it because the tie rod had to be replaced. Apparently this part controls your steering and you can potentially lose a wheel while you are driving down the highway. Now I am worried and I don't dare drive my vehicle any further than necessary right back ove
... r to Firestone to have them replace it on Monday. This is a safety concern because if I lose steering and the wheel comes off in that distance of even one mile anyone in the area of such a situation could get hurt. I actually don't have much money, but have no choice but to pay to have it done. I have continually maintained my vehicle. I have not hit any rocks that would have caused this issue either. I asked Joe at Firestone what would have caused the problem and he told me simple wear and tear. I only have 27,360 miles on my car. That makes no sense to me with such a small amount of mileage that the tie rod would have to be replaced to remain safe on the road.Read more

One thing I did notice was that the gas mileage significantly dropped even though I was driving the same distance. Also at times there is a strong fuel odor after a trip is completed or at times while the truck is operating. Fortunately, we were near a stop light and traffic was going slow and able to go around the vehicle without causing a crash. The vehicle had to be towed. We are asking that there be a mandatory recall of this issue for the 2014 Honda Civic as it is a safety risk. We are just lucky that both of these incidents occurred while near stop lights and no one was injured. However, there is one side remaining on our Civic that needs replaced and hopefully the recall will be issued before the car breaks down and causes a crash and possible deathly injury. We contacted Honda and they said we can take the car in for a diagnostic inspection at a personal cost to us of $100-$500 depending on the dealer. This is unacceptable.Read more

I own a 2018 Honda CRV with 57,000 miles. I have brought it to the dealer for every required maintenance. On a recent road trip south, I noticed when driving on the highway that the steering wheel was sticking in place. There were no warning indicators. It felt dangerous, because I had to apply force even on slight curves to turn and stay in the lane. I thought, perhaps the power steering fluid
... was low or gummy. So, when we finally arrived at our destination, I brought it to the dealership and was told no -- actually there is no longer any power steering fluid. The electronic steering rack is failing. Worse - the sticking will continue to get worse until it fails altogether, and the power steering will stop working. There was no time frame for when any of these things might occur - like a time bomb. The repair cost is $4446.33! I asked if there is a recall for this and the dealership said no but they could refer me to sales if I wanted to trade it in for a new car! Also, the new part would only be guaranteed for one year!!! Since finding this out I have done research on the problem and found that many people have had this same problem. Some cars have been recalled but not others. At this time we have contacted the mfg of both the tires and trailer, filing warrantee paperwork with Lionshead. We have not heard anything back from them as of today.Read more

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I am currently experiencing a PTU error that is a common issue with most jeeps, such as mine. I did a recall check and there is a recall for the same error; however, my jeep VIN does not qualify for it. Nor does it qualify for the extended warranty that is out there for the powertrain unit. This comm
... on jeep issue with the ptu has been causing a decrease in acceleration for quite some time. I took it into Jeep and they said a flash update had already done; however, the next step was to install the PTU hard drive. This was quoted between $3-$4k. After doing some research, I discovered that there was a recall for the same part but my VIN does not qualify for it. At the same time I discovered that there is an extended warranty for the PTU; however, my VIN does not qualify for it. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? There has been a decrease in power when accelerating, especially when driving on the highway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I took it into my local jeep to get it diagnosed and they confirmed it is a PTU error. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, just Jeep. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There is a "SVC 4WD" light that was turned on when this started happening.Read more

I have had a 2012 Prius since 2016. The entire time I've had it, it occasionally "hydroplanes" but without any water. It happens in wet or dry (but mostly dry) conditions. Usually at slower speeds so, though it makes me very uncomfortable, it doesn't happen with any regularity. I've taken it multiple times to my mechanic who always says "Prius' just do that", which is not reassuring. I know there
... was a recall and I was told my car did not fall under that umbrella. On Wednesday of this week, 10/25/23, I finally had an accident because of this. The brake lockup had been happening more frequently in the past week and in this instance I saw the car in front of me suddenly slow down - I had about 2/3 of a cars distance between me and the car ahead. I hit the brakes and nothing happened. I was pushing down on them long enough to think, "Ok, this is it. They aren't responding at all and I'm going to hit this car in front of me." I did and it crushed the passenger side of the car. Luckily I wasn't hurt. There were no warnings from the car at all that this was going to happen, as there never are. I took it in for possible repair today (the mechanic is not sure but thinks it may be a total loss). This car did everything they describe in the recall cases and I want to know if there's anyway to be repaid from the company for this as there was nothing I could do to stop this accident? Why wasn't my car included in the recall?Read more

In September 2022, we began to hear clunking sounds from the front left, especially when turning. We took the vehicle to the VW dealer and were told that there is a known issue with the steering and they will order the part. At this point, the vehicle was still under warranty. For several months, we continued to ask the dealer for an update on the part and were told that it was back-ordered but
... to continue driving the vehicle, as it was safe to do so. We continued to drive the vehicle as our daily driver. We also informed the VW dealer that the clunking was becoming louder and more prevalent. They continued to tell us the vehicle was safe and the part was back-ordered, with no estimate of when it would be back in stock. We asked about the part every time the vehicle was at the dealer, and called periodically to check in, almost every month until August 2023. At no point did VW reach out to us. Fast forward to September 2023. We took the vehicle to a local mechanic for a routine oil change, and asked that they evaluate the steering. This mechanic told us to stop driving the vehicle immediately as the vehicle could lose steering at any time. I immediately called the dealer and was told again that the vehicle was safe to drive. When I informed the dealer that I had in writing to stop driving the vehicle immediately, they offered us a loaner. The dealer stated there is still no estimated time of delivery for the needed part, and also stated that 800+ vehicles are waiting on the same part. I assume not all these vehicles have been parked & that most remain on the road, unaware that they may lose their steering.Read more

The body of our car has been losing paint in big strips. As we drive, large paint chunks will fly off parts of our vehicle. Hyundai is aware that their 2017 "white pearl" Elantras are having this issue; however, they refuse to do anything to help with the cost of repainting the car. They claim that an extended paint warranty was issued until Dec. 10, 2022; however, the paint issue on our vehicle j
... ust began happening on October 11, 2023. On Oct. 11, we had another motorist stop us at a light to tell us that paint came off the roof of our car onto their windshield as we were driving down a state road. Paint is now bubbling and beginning to peel from different places on the vehicle (the roof, the hood, and the passenger side door). It is dangerous to other motorists on the road as the large strips of paint flying off can be distracting and/or can obstruct their view if/when it lands on their windshield.Read more
