On [XXX] at [XXX], my 2017 Hyundai Sonata Sport lost power steering while I was driving 60 mph on [XXX] in San Leandro, CA. The MDPS warning light came on and my steering wheel became very tight and difficult to control. I remained calm and maintain control of the steering with both of my hands and got off the freeway safely. I parked at the nearest exit and turned off the engine. I waited a f
... ew seconds, then restarted the engine and the MDPS warning light disappeared and the power steering came back. The MDPS malfunction happened on local street before, but that was my 1st MDPS malfunction experience while I was on freeway and it was very scary and dangerous. I reported the incident to San Leandro Hyundai dealership on 5/31/2024 because Hyundai is aware of this malfunction and extended the MDPS warranty to 15 years. The mechanic from San Leandro Hyundai acknowledged the issue and found a fault in the MDPS. However, the dealership refused to repair or replace the MDPS because the dealership claimed the part (56310-C2700), steering column & shaft assembly, is not covered by the extended warranty. San Leandro Hyundai dealership knew there was a problem, but disregarded driver safety on highway. Please see MDPS warning light from my pictures and I have video recording of the incident if needed. North Park Toyota knowingly sold me a 2023 Toyota Tundra with defective brakes and defective air conditioning. The brakes screach randomly, startling me as a driver and othwr drivers on the road. They can buy this defective lemon back from me or I will sue Toyota and the individuals involved in selling this lemon to me. I have been experiencing engine hesitation issues with our Honda Odyssey for the last several months. We received a Safety recall notice in the mail and have tried to address the issue with 2 different dealers. The 1st dealer told me that the safety issue "should not cause any symptoms and we can't get the part for you." The second dealer told me to bring the car in for an appointment and they
... would address the issue and order the fuel pump for replacement. Several things happened during these visits to both Martin and Union Honda. Martin Honda would not address the safety recall. We were also having a "knocking" sound which they diagnosed as an issue with the right passenger strut. They told me that it needed to be replaced. Out of frustration with their customer service I decided to seek advice from our personal mechanic of 25 years. I have ordered struts for both the driver and passenger side which will be installed by our mechanic per their advice. Martin Honda never mentioned the driver's side strut. Union Honda said that they were going to charge me to "diagnose" whether or not the engine hesitation was coming from the fuel pump. They said it would take 2 days to diagnose. Within 2 hours I received a text stating that inspection of our car received the "green light." Everything passed and they did not notice the engine hesitation "while driving the vehicle." How is it possible that they didn't notice the "Failed - Critical Concern" of the Right Front Strut and Top Hat/Bearings while inspecting the car that was detected by Martin Honda? When questioned the manager stated "well, he wasn't looking for that. We were focusing on the engine hesitation." Why was it marked as "passed" when just a week prior it was marked "failed." They had no answer. I was told that the safety recall was not an issue with our vehicle and nothing can be done. However, I am still having engine hesitation. Doesn't the part have to be replaced regardless?!Read more

Incident date: Apr 29, 2024
Issue Description: -While traveling in a straight line, particularly at speeds above 45 mph, the steering wheel exhibits a sticky behavior. If left untouched for a few seconds, the wheel becomes difficult to turn, requiring significant force to break it free from the straight line. This resistance is felt both while driving straight and during turns, resulting in noticeable sticking and jerking.
... Details: -Lane keep assist and driver assist features are turned off. -When driving straight and not touching the wheel for a few seconds, attempting to make a minor correction causes the wheel to stick. This requires applying considerable pressure to free the wheel, often leading to over-correction. -In turns, if the wheel is held in a steady position for more than a second, it sticks and must be forcibly moved out of the turn. Once unstuck, the steering feels normal again. -The issue is most prominent at speeds above 45 mph affecting both slight left and right adjustments. -Potential causes include the steering rack/pinion assembly (EPS gearbox) and the possible need for additional lubricant/grease. Symptoms: -Sticking and jerking of the steering wheel during slight adjustments. -Increased resistance when attempting to correct the wheel after it remains in one position for a few seconds. -Inspection and repair of the steering rack/pinion assembly, with consideration for additional lubrication or grease application. -Further evaluation of steering wheel, steering column, column lock, steering rack/box, linkages, hydraulic power steering pumps and hoses, electrical power steering motors, actuators, wiring and related sensors, electronic control units and software needed to determine if other components contribute to the sticky steering issue.Read more

Ford Media to UPI, “IN THE EVENT OF AN ENGINE FAILURE” above issues
... may occur. 3.5/26/23. Recall 23S27 acknowledges, “ENGINE COULD FAIL PREMATURELY,” leading to the above. 4.5/26/23. NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report: CAUSE identified. “Isolated ENGINE MANUFACTURING ISSUES HAVE RESULTED IN 2.5L HEV/PHEV ENGINE FAILURES INVOLVING ENGINE BLOCK OR OIL PAN BREACH. Likely driving “final solution” (paragraph 7). “In the event of an ENGINE BLOCK OR OIL PAN BREACH, THE HEV/PHEV SYSTEM CONTINUES TO PROPEL THE VEHICLE ALLOWING THE CUSTOMER TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. AS THE CUSTOMER CONTINUES TO DRIVE AFTER A BLOCK BREACH, oil and/or fuel vapor continues to be expelled and accumulates near ignition sources”. 5.2023. “23S27 Chronology RMISC-23V380-7289,” LINKS recall 22S47 with 23S27. Vehicles WHICH HAD UNDERGONE THE REPAIR SPECIFIED BY 22S47 STILL HAD ISSUES, and Ford engineers CONFIRMED BLOCK BREACH AND CORRECT 22S47 REPAIR. “Repair” for 22S47 DID NOT FIX THE UNDERLYING MECHANICAL PROBLEM. 6.6/6/23. Autoblog: “Per Ford, the “manufacturing issues” include POOR MACHINING OF THE ENGINE CRANKSHAFT AND CONTAMINATION OF ENGINE BLOCK MATING SURFACES DURING ASSEMBLY.” “2.5-liter engines . . . with defects “could be ticking time bombs.” 7.5/24. “SOFTWARE is now available to REPAIR [affected vehicles].” Dealers will “update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).” This will not fix the problem. I respectfully request NHTSA investigate and compel Ford to provide the correct and proper mechanical repairs necessary to prevent block/oil pan breach in the first place.Read more
