I DID SOME INVESTIGATION AND FOUND OUT THOUGH A WEB BLOG CALLED TRIUMPH675.NET THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH BIKES MOTORCYCLES. APPARENTLY THE LOCATION OF THE REGULATOR/RECTIFIER IS TOO CLOSE THE ENGINE, HEATING THE REGULATOR/RECTIFIER AND ULTIMATELY AFFECTING IT'S LIFESPAN OF THE PART. SOME EVEN HAVE CAUSED ELECTRICAL SHORTS AND SETTING THE MOTORCYCLES ON FIRE. WHEN ACCELERATING THROUGH 2ND GEAR THE BIKE JOLTS AS IT APPARENTLY SKIPPING A TOOTH ON THE GEAR. ... N. WHEN INSTEAD THE REAR WHEEL LOCKS, YOU TEND TO FALL. THE ENGINE HAS DIED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM LOW SPEED-APPROXIMATELY 1500 TO 1700 RPM. THE ENGINE HAS ALSO DIED AFTER SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL, AGAIN AT LOW RPM. FINALLY, MOST RIDERS WHEN SHIFTING DOWN TO A LOWER GEAR "BLIP" THE THROTTLE. THIS MAKES THE SHIFT SMOOTH. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DOWNSHIFT, THE ENGINE HAS FAILED TO RESPOND TO INCREASED THROTTLE POSITION. THIS RESULTS IN A "ROUGH" SHIFT AND CAN CAUSE THE REAR WHEEL TO HOP AS THE ENGINE RPM INCREASES TO THE DEMANDS OF THE LOWER GEAR. BOTH THE DYING UNDER ACCELERATION AND THE FAILURE TO INCREASE RPM WITH THROTTLE POSITION FOR DOWNSHIFTS ARE VERY DANGEROUS. THE DYING WHEN SLOWING UP CAN ALSO LEAVE YOU SITTING STILL AND A TARGET FOR FOLLOW-ON TRAFFIC. OUR DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION WITHOUT SUCCESS. BOTH OF THEM CAN END IN EITHER A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE (TIMING CHAIN BREAKING CAUSING TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE) AND THE TRANSMISSION LOCKING UP PROBLEM. THE TIMING CHAIN HAS STARTED MAKING A RATTLE AND IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING TO BREAK. AFTER GOOGLING IT I FOUND OUT THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THE CHAIN BREAK CAUSING COMPLETE ENGINE DESTRUCTION. SOME HAVE HAD THE MOTOR SEIZE CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL. ON DAY 2 OF OWNERSHIP OF A BRAND MY NEW 2008 TIGER 1050 ABS, I WAS RIDING IN THE RAIN. 20 MIN AFTER PICKING UP MY MOTORCYCLE FROM OVERHEATING REPAIR AT CORSA MOTORSPORTS IN NYC, I NOTICED A LITTLE OIL LEAKING FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY MOTORCYCLE. I PROMPTLY TURNED AROUND AND WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS A BAD SUMP GASKET AND THAT THEY WOULD ORDER A NEW ONE AND INFORM ME WHEN IT ARRIVED, WHICH THEY DID NOT DO. *TR

MY TRIUMPH TIGER 1050 OVERHEATED MANY TIMES IN TRAFFIC. THE BIKE WOULD GO FROM 6-9 ON THE TEMP GAUGE VERY QUICKLY AND THE OVERHEATING WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I PULLED OVER TO LET IT COOL DOWN AND AFTER 15 MIN OR SO I WOULD START AGAIN AND IT WOULD TAKE ONLY A FEW MINUTES TO OVERHEAT AGAIN. THEN I NOTICED THE COOLANT RESERVE WAS BOILING AND THE COOLANT BLEW ALL OVER THE GROUND. I DISCOVERED TH
... E COOLING FAN WAS NOT WORKING AND CHECKED THE FUSES. THE FAN FUSE WAS BLOWN AND I REPLACED IT. IT WOULD ONLY TAKE ABOUT 15 MIN IN TRAFFIC FOR THE FUSE TO BLOW AGAIN AND RESULT IN OVERHEATING. THIS PERSISTED UNTIL I COULD GET IT TO THE DEALER LATER IN THE AFTERNOON. I WAS PUT IN HARMS WAY AS I HAD TO REPEATEDLY PULL OVER ON NON SAFE ROADS TO LET THE BIKE COOL DOWN. I PICKED THE BIKE UP FROM CORSA MOTORSPORTS IN NYC THE NEXT MORNING AND ALL THEY DID WAS REPLACE THE FUSE AND SAID IT WAS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM AND CHARGED ME $65.74.
