While driving, I began noticing a high-pitched whining or buzzing noise when pressing the accelerator, particularly at low speeds. The sound resembles an electric or remote-control car and rises in pitch with engine RPMs. The noise disappears when I release the gas pedal. A mechanic initially suspected a wheel bearing, but after further inspection, it appears the noise is coming from the transmis
... sion or drivetrain. I later discovered that this issue is widespread among 2017–2020 Toyota Highlander models equipped with the UA80E/UA80F 8-speed automatic transmission, which has been associated with internal gear and pump whine. Toyota has issued Customer Support Program POL19-04 and Technical Service Bulletin T-SB-0008-21 addressing similar transmission whine and gear damage, but my vehicle is outside the standard 5-year/60,000-mile warranty and was not included in the extended coverage list, even though the symptoms match exactly. The problem appears to be a design or component defect within the UA80-series transmission, leading to premature wear and potential failure. This can affect drivability, safety during acceleration, and could result in transmission failure without warning.Read more

The vehicle launched forward while parking going thru a CMU wall, causing considerable damage to the structure and the car itself. Airbag was deployed injuring the driver and causing a cut in the bottom lip and skin burns on the left hand from a small fire that went thru the clothes. Also, the driver was in state of shock after the incident due to the speed at which everything occurred. During the
... day, the driver complained about dizziness and pain at the base of the neck, numbness/pain in the face. Additionally, the driver pressed the brake pedal to try to avoid the crash but did not prevent the car from launching forward. It appears that the capacitive controls located on the left side of the steering wheel, were inadvertently reengaged while the driver was maneuvering to park. VW of America requested the car to be dropped of at the dealer but has not looked at it as of the time of this reporting. The incident occurred earlier this morning and still getting appraisal for damages of both the property and vehicle. There were no dashboard warning lights or messages prior to discovering the problem; the only symptom was an oil smell and the dipstick reading consistently below normal levels between changes. The problem has been confirmed by an independent mechanic. The vehicle has been regularly maintained according to the manufacturer’s service schedule. The manufacturer has declined to offer assistance, citing warranty expiration and second-owner status, despite the failure occurring only 1,000 miles past coverage and appearing consistent with a latent manufacturing defect. Upon purchase of the vehicle, unlike previous models and versions of the software - the vehicle’s speed limit control was incapable of being set - instead, using FSD, you had to select from percentage based offsets - which were frequently ignored and would still go much higher or much lower than the percentage value set. The owner of the vehicle was unable to say limit to only 10 over the speed
... limit; instead it was percent based and not reliable. In addition, more than a third of the time - the speed limits in the infotainment system did not match the posted speed limits. Sometimes, in the middle of a highway - it would randomly go from 55 to 25, posing a significant threat hazard when using the FSD or cruise control system (which is something Tesla charges extra for access to) causing the vehicle to immediately decrease speed when other vehicles behind are getting up to speed and not expecting a vehicle to randomly slow down excessively. Additionally, when you manually override the speed limit control, or the system does, the user interface hides this limit so the driver is unaware of what limit of speed it is set to. These issues were already bad enough, but just yesterday my vehicle was pushed a software update that dramatically reduced the performance of FSD, and now I am unable to manually control the speed limit at all in FSD. This was a regression from purchase, when a scroll wheel at least allowed me to manually set the speed limit or correct it when it was wrong. Now, that feature has been removed and instead there’s a duplication of FSD profiles (left/right on the right scroll wheel does the same as scrolling up/down). And continuing this trend, the driver is incapable of seeing what the speed limit is set to because it’s hidden from the user interface. In addition, the driving behavior for FSD has significantly regressed from before the update. Cruise control’s most basic functionality should be to set a speed limit. Now this feature has been removed.Read more

Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Failed Recall Repair and Improper Diagnostics Charges - Jeep Recall No. 23V116 (Manual Transmission Clutch Overheating) & Violation of 49 U.S.C. Section 30120 Dear Sir or Madam, I am submitting this complaint regarding an unresolved safety defect and improper repair charges related to an official recall performed on my 2020 Jeep Wrangler (manual transmission).
... The issue concerns Recall No. 23V116 and superseding Recall 21V028, which addresses clutch overheating and associated software logic. Prior to the recall work performed, my Jeep had approximately 23,000 miles on it, and I never had any issues with the manual transmission or transmission related warning codes. In May, I received letters informing me that I needed to take my Jeep to the dealership as soon as possible to have the above recall work performed to avoid potential overheating and fire hazards related to my clutch plate. In June 2025, I brought my vehicle to Don White's Jeep dealership on York Rd. in Cockeysville, MD. The dealership replaced the clutch hardware and performed a software update as required. I did not drive the Jeep for a couple of months due to weather and frequent rainfall during June, July & August. Upon driving the Jeep in August, the "Service Transmission" light came on, and I immediately notified the dealership, and they performed a software update to fix the warning light, admitting they did not realize the software update was required the first time. Two days later, the "Service Transmission" light came on again, and I immediately notified the dealership and dropped the Jeep off to be serviced. The dealership has now had the Jeep for more than a month and has not been able to resolve the "Service Transmission" issue. They are now refusing to perform any additional work unless I pay them approx. $1,000 in diagnostics fees. I opened a case with Jeep Customer Care and they also refused coverage and are demanding payment.Read more

The engine of my 2023 Toyota Tundra failed at approximately 34,500 miles. The failure involved sudden loss of oil pressure and severe internal damage, with metal shavings found in the oil and oil filter. The oil filter itself detached during the incident and was later recovered with metallic debris inside. The vehicle and the recovered filter are available for inspection upon request. While accele
... rating from a stop light on a busy morning public road, the engine suddenly lost power, illuminated multiple warning lamps, and entered limp mode with “low oil pressure” and “engine malfunction” messages. The truck rapidly leaked oil, creating a roadway hazard and putting me, my wife & son, and other drivers at risk of accident. I was able to limp the vehicle home .5 miles from the incident at reduced speed, but complete engine seizure was a possibility. Toyota of Fort Walton Beach inspected the vehicle, confirmed metal shavings in the oil pan, documented codes P05202 and P052049 (low oil pressure and oil pressure sensor stuck in range), and noted “oil was very metallic.” The vehicle was inspected by Toyota dealership technicians and corporate representatives. I also have possession of the oil filter and photos/videos from the inspection. At the moment of failure, the dash displayed low oil pressure, check engine light, and a message regarding engine/electronic malfunction. Prior to this event, there were no warning signs — the truck had been serviced two weeks earlier at 33,360 miles, and I drove approximately 1,200 miles without incident until the catastrophic failure. This failure matches the description in Toyota Recall 24V-381. My vehicle’s build date (February 27, 2023) is less than two weeks outside the published recall production window, yet the symptoms and inspection results are identical. I respectfully request NHTSA investigate whether additional 2023 Toyota Tundra vehicles outside the current recall window are affected, as my case demonstrates the same hazards.Read more
