I am filing this complaint regarding an active safety recall on my 2024 Toyota Tundra involving manufacturing debris left in the V35A 3.4L twin-turbocharged V6 engine during production. This recall has been open for multiple years and spans over 250,000 vehicles across the 2022–2024 Tundra, Lexus LX 600, and 2024 Lexus GX 550. The manufacturing debris causes damage to the engine’s main bearing
... s, resulting in engine knocking, rough running, failure to start, and sudden loss of motive power while driving at speed — a condition Toyota itself acknowledges increases the risk of a crash. Toyota deployed a remedy consisting of full engine replacement; however, Toyota has since acknowledged that the replacement engines are experiencing the same failures, meaning there is currently no confirmed, working fix. Despite this, Toyota continued selling new vehicles with this known defect. Remedy deadlines have been repeatedly promised and repeatedly missed, with the latest expected resolution pushed to July/August 2026 — a deadline that has already slipped multiple times. As an owner, I am left driving a vehicle that Toyota acknowledges is dangerous, with no confirmed timeline for a legitimate repair, and suffering significant financial harm due to the ongoing depreciation and diminished resale value caused directly by this unresolved defect.Read more

Prior to the oil change service, the front AC vents were functioning properly. Immediately after the dealership serviced the vehicle, the front vents stopped blowing air. This issue was not present before the visit. Regardless of whether the dealership believes an oil change “should not” affect the AC system, the fact remains that the problem arose directly after the vehicle was in their posse
... ssion. (In 93 degree weather) Diagnosis determined that the AC front air outlet servo motor was stuck off and that the AC blender box would have to be replaced to remedy the issue.Read more

During the lower interval settings, wipers will not work in proper order. Sometimes you may get three quick wipes and them the wipers will stop in middle of windshield for about 5-8 seconds. Sometimes the wipers are inconsistent with proper timing and will not properly work all the time.

After a maintenance service, i was made aware of an oil leak from where the bank 1 head gasket meets the timing cover. Verbally quoted for $6500 due to the “extensive labor” costs of replacing the gasket.

Gear shift makes noise when moving it, as in you can actually hear the gears/electrical equipment moving and making noise when going from park to drive. The keyless entry when the fob is near, just doesn't work well from the drivers side... I can stand there trying to allow it to unlock and it just locks again or wont unlock the passenger door even if allowing it extra time to.

Water sloshing around inside the passenger door after rain or car wash. If you pull at the seal a little bit, water pours out. This has happened a few times now in the last year of owning the car. The rear seatbelt sensor also goes off randomly, when no one is sitting in the back seat.

My 2024 Used Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Platinum Max was at a slight decline stopped at a stop sign in Echo mode. The whole car began to violently shake and lurching forward. No one was in front of me and my foot was on the brake or I probably would have run into a car in front of me. The dashboard then flashed a warning about the hybrid system overheating. The only way to stop it was to t
... urn off the engine, then turn it back on. The car then began driving normally. I have also had an issue with hesitation felt while accelerating 0-40 mph with study throttle. Upon researching both issues, they should be resolved with TSB calibrations to my car of T-SB-0028-25 and T-SB-0017-24. This is not an error that would come up when doing a diagnostic check on my car's computer per research I have done. I took my car to get the updates at Toyota of Redlands, CA, and they refused to do them unless they could recreate them themselves. I called Toyota to report this, and they said that each Toyota dealership/service is privately owned at their own discretion. I was basically told to return if I experience it again. I do not want to experience this again and they wouldn't take my word on it anyways. I feel like next time I could injure myself or someone else if this glitch happened again. I therefore would like to implore to make this a mandatory preventative TSB calibration for cars that have had this reported/models/year which mine has. This goes for any TSB calibrations should be done preventatively, but especially ones that can cause a potential accident like T-SB-0028-25 and T-SB-0017-24. Here is information on why this would not show up on a diagnostic test: Your Toyota didn't generate an error code because the shudder is a software calibration issue rather than a component failure. The onboard computer (ECU) only triggers a check engine light or throws a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) when sensors detect a hard mechanical or electrical failure.Read more

While driving my 2025 Toyota 4Runner in rainy conditions, the vehicle’s stamped hood channels act as a reservoir, trapping and pooling large volumes of standing water. Upon braking or decelerating—even at low, around-town speeds—the pooled water surges forward off the front nose of the hood onto the windshield. The vehicle's forward aerodynamics catch this massive sheet of water and instantl
... y launch it backward across the entire windshield, causing total and sudden loss of forward visibility. This creates an unpredictable, immediate crash hazard that catches the driver completely off guard, as the windshield wipers cannot clear the sudden volume of water fast enough to maintain a safe view of the road. This occurs around town driving (25mph to 45mph) and highway speeds (60mph - 70mph). I understand you can turn the wipers on high, but it catches you off guard when it happens.Read more

I was driving on the freeway in my Toyota Tundra when it suddenly shut off completely. It was honestly terrifying because my first thought was getting rear-ended in traffic. After about 15 seconds, the truck randomly turned back on by itself, but the whole situation really shook me up. A vehicle that new shouldn’t be doing something that dangerous.
Incident date: May 25, 2026
The plastic coolant crossover valve or pipe failed at 66,000 miles and 5 years of usage. This led to the radiator cracking. After researching online, I read about thousands of Tacoma 3rd generation users with the same issue. Also, the same issue was recalled for several other models of Toyotas but not the Tacoma.

On Friday, December 5, 2025, I was coming out of the driveway at the Jack In The Box on the corner of El Camino & Nobili Avenue in Santa Clara. My foot was on the break as I was going to stop at the end of the driveway to check to see if there was any traffic coming down Nobili before I exited the Jack In The Box driveway. All of a sudden before I even hit the end of the driveway while I had my fo
... ot on the brake, the car started to speed up (unintentional acceleration)and I continued to press my foot down harder on the brake, but nothing could stop it. A lot of black smoke came up out of the steering wheel area where it attached to the dashboard & all of the air bags around the car deployed. Then my car completely turned itself around and the front of my car was now facing the driveway that I had just come out of. This torque of acceleration and braking is why my car spun around 180 degrees. The vehicle had sustained damage to the front end, the hood, front bumper cover, right front head lamp was cracked, and the Toyota emblem was missing. (See attached photos taken at the time of the accident) Since all of the air bags in the whole car had completely deployed, I found that the only way I could get out of the car was to slide myself under the air bag that surrounded the driver side door. As I got out of the car, the rib that is directly under my right breast began to hurt very badly and it was hard for me to take a breath with the pain from that rib. I also had a bad headache, too. Plus, the top of my left hand was all red and felt like something had scratched the whole back of my hand. It hurt to touch it. I was also light-headed.The car, I was told, looked like I had hit a wall. The whole left front side of the car was severely mangled - the hood, the fender, and the tire was flat. The shocking thing was that I had not had an encounter with any car, nor had they hit me, to account for this damage. The Police & Fire Dept.& EMT's were called.Read more

The power liftgate and pinch sensor system on my 2024 Toyota Sequoia Platinum continues to malfunction intermittently and creates an ongoing safety concern. The liftgate frequently fails to close using the electronic controls and instead emits two warning beeps before becoming completely unresponsive, forcing the liftgate to be manually pushed shut. The pinch sensor system appears to falsely dete
... ct obstructions when none are present, causing unreliable and inconsistent operation of the rear liftgate. Because this is a powered safety-related system, the intermittent failure raises serious concerns regarding occupant safety, system reliability, and the ability to properly secure the rear hatch while the vehicle is in operation. This issue has persisted despite dealership involvement and does not appear to be an isolated incident. Multiple owners have reported similar failures involving the Sequoia liftgate and pinch sensor system. Toyota has not provided a permanent corrective action. For a vehicle at this price point, repeated failures of a powered liftgate safety system are unacceptable. The defect creates the potential for injury, improper liftgate closure, and unsafe vehicle operation. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue for a broader defect pattern and determine whether a recall or manufacturer-required corrective action is warranted.Read more

I own a 2021 Toyota Highlander with approximately 100,500 miles. The vehicle has developed a noticeable whining noise coming from the transmission/drivetrain area that continues to worsen over time. The noise is most noticeable during acceleration and while driving at highway speeds. I brought the vehicle to Toyota for inspection and was informed that the issue is related to the transmission. How
... ever, Toyota denied repair assistance because the vehicle is outside the powertrain warranty period. After researching the issue, I discovered multiple similar complaints involving 2021 Toyota Highlanders equipped with the UA80 transmission, including Toyota Technical Service Bulletin T-SB-0008-21 regarding “Whine or Grind Noise From the Transmission.” The symptoms described in the bulletin closely match the symptoms my vehicle is experiencing. Toyota appears aware of this transmission-related issue, yet many owners outside the warranty period are being denied coverage despite similar failures and complaints. I am concerned this may represent a broader transmission defect that could lead to premature transmission failure, unsafe driving conditions, hesitation, loss of power, or expensive repairs for consumers. I believe this issue should be investigated further by NHTSA due to the growing number of similar complaints involving whining transmission noises and transmission failures in Toyota Highlander vehicles. At this time, the vehicle has not yet experienced a complete transmission failure, but the condition is worsening and raises significant concerns regarding reliability and safety.Read more
