The transmission needs to be replaced per the dealership. I was told this on 3/7/26 with mileage of 69K. The transmission has been reported as defective to Toyota since 2016-2017 with multiple lawsuits that have been filed. According to the lawsuits found online, Toyota knowingly used the defective UA80 transmissions and failed to inform consumers when purchasing the vehicles or inform consumers t

The incidents most often occur when I try to accelerate after vehicle is stopped at an intersection. The car hesitates during acceleration regardless of how much I push the gas. Once it starts to go, it feels as though the car can't shift from 1st to 2nd gear. The RPMs get up 4500 while the car is going 25-40 mph and remain there for a few seconds up to ~20 seconds. ... d when my car hesitates while turning at an intersection, going through an intersection or pulling out from a parking lot. I have been stuck in several intersections when traffic was coming toward me, but thankfully those cars were able to avoid hitting me. I have reported the problem every time I take the car to the dealer for a service. The problem has been happening since I purchased the car in November 2024 and occurs randomly--sometimes every couple of months, sometimes days in a row. The dealer can't reproduce it, but they were able to pull a code from the transmission and found it had an acceleration error. They updated the software from a TSB, but that didn't help.Read more

We were notified by Toyota that it was unsafe to transport our children in the second row seats in November 2025 and the vehicle was under a recall. This puts our children at risk. A letter from NHTSA stated Toyota would have a remedy by 12/6. The manufacturer (Toyota) confirmed this recall. Given that Toyota has not indicated a solution date for this and the problem was discovered in October 2025

Just like thousands of others with Toyota CHR 2018-2020, our transmissions give out before the suggested mileage for service, and Toyota is not replacing them for free and charging us $13,000 per transmission replacement. We are thousands of complaints. It can't be just us, clearly this car's transmission is defective and needs to be replaced for free.

The vehicle exhibits a consistent and reproducible malfunction in the powertrain system, specifically related to acceleration response and drivetrain engagement. While driving at a steady speed, when the accelerator is pressed gradually (approximately 50–60%), the engine RPM increases but the vehicle does not accelerate accordingly. There is a delay in power delivery. When the accelerator is re
... leased, the engine may continue revving briefly, followed by a sudden and jerky engagement of the drivetrain. This issue occurs consistently under the same driving conditions and can be reproduced every time. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This malfunction creates a safety risk when merging into traffic, entering intersections, or making turns. The vehicle does not respond when acceleration is required, which can lead to dangerous situations where other vehicles may approach at higher speeds. After the delay, the vehicle may surge forward unexpectedly, increasing the risk of collision. The issue has been reported to multiple authorized Toyota dealerships on several occasions within the first 15 months of ownership. The vehicle has been inspected by dealership technicians, but the concern has not been diagnosed or repaired. Dealerships have stated that the behavior is normal, despite the repeatable nature of the issue. No warning lights, error messages, or diagnostic indicators have appeared at any time. No diagnostic trouble codes have been reported. The vehicle is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the behavior appears consistent with a possible transmission, torque converter, or drivetrain control malfunction affecting acceleration response. The condition is not related to driver input and occurs under controlled, repeatable conditions.Read more

Subject: Brake Booster/Pump Assembly Failure – Toyota Program ZJB / 23TE07 Description of Incident: I am reporting a failure of the brake booster and pump assembly on my 3rd Generation Prius (82,000 miles). While the vehicle is 11.3 years old, it is well under the 150,000-mile threshold of Toyota’s Customer Support Program ZJB. The brake pump began cycling every 13 seconds, indicating an int
... ernal pressure leak in the accumulator. This is a documented precursor to a total loss of power-assist braking. Despite the clear mechanical failure, no warning lamps or Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) were triggered, creating a safety hazard where the system could fail without prior electronic notification. Repair and Cost Details: Because the vehicle was 1.3 years past the arbitrary 10-year "Secondary Coverage" window, I was forced to pay $3,461.18 out-of-pocket for a known manufacturing defect. I would like to highlight a discrepancy in labor billing: while Toyota’s own technical bulletins (ZJB/23TE07) state the repair should take approximately 5.3 hours, the dealership charged 8.9 hours of labor for the same procedure. Safety Concern: By limiting coverage to 10 years, Toyota has left many low-mileage owners with a critical safety defect that degrades over time regardless of mileage. I request that the NHTSA transition this from a "Customer Support Program" to a formal Safety Recall to ensure all affected vehicles are repaired and owners are reimbursed, regardless of the vehicle's age.Read more

... re that incident, the vehicle had already been making abnormal brake-related noises, including a humming/pumping noise when the brake pedal was applied, and there were intermittent episodes where braking felt abnormal. In June 2025, the vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealership during Toyota’s brake booster support program period. The dealership documented customer complaints of “humming noise in cabin when holding foot on the brakes,” a request to “scan for codes for ZJB enhancement,” and that the “vehicle hard to accelerate and brakes got stiff,” but stated that no qualifying ABS codes were present at that time. In March 2026, the same condition returned and worsened. The vehicle again displayed the red brake warning light, ABS light, brake system warning light, and traction/slip light, and braking performance was reduced. An OBD scan of the ABS control unit showed code C1391, which is associated with brake booster / ABS actuator failure. The Toyota dealership has now diagnosed the vehicle with ABS actuator and brake booster failure and quoted repair. This is a serious safety issue because braking became more difficult while driving, including on the highway, with sudden warning lights and degraded stopping ability. The failed components are available for inspection. The problem has now been confirmed by a Toyota dealership. The issue was reported to a Toyota dealership during the prior support-program period but was not confirmed then.Read more

I am reporting a safety concern involving BMW and Toyota vehicles equipped with the B58 Technical Update (B58TU) engine, commonly found in 2019–2021 models. These engines use a variable displacement oil pump with an internal thermoplastic adjusting component that regulates oil pressure. Field reports show this component can fracture, causing sudden loss or instability of oil pressure—most ofte
... n during cold starts in low temperatures. When the part fails, oil pressure regulation becomes erratic or disappears entirely, often with little or no useful warning before engine damage or vehicle disablement. Reported early signs include failed electronic oil level readings, abnormal pressure behavior, or sudden drivetrain malfunction messages. Failures can quickly escalate to engine shutdown or severe mechanical damage from oil starvation. A loss of lubrication may disable the vehicle without warning while driving or shortly after startup, creating a safety hazard—especially in winter conditions when failures are most frequent and occupants may be exposed to freezing temperatures. Repairing the issue requires major disassembly, and oil pump replacement alone typically costs $6,000–$8,000 if the engine has not been harmed. Owners cannot reliably determine whether their cars contain the original plastic based pump or a later metal component revision because VIN based parts data now shows updated components even when no replacement occurred, and BMW has removed the original plastic pump part number from dealer systems. Failures have been reported across multiple production years, and the exact population of affected vehicles remains unclear. Because this defect can cause sudden, warning free vehicle disablement—particularly in cold weather—I believe it warrants investigation as a potential safety related issue. One of the main indicators of this issue is the inability to determine oil level, my car has never been able to determine oil level. Thank you.Read more
