I was driving across a mountain pass in Washington State at an elevation of approximately 4,000 ft. With no warning I hear a very loud noise, sounding like a gunshot. I was in pretty heavy traffic and pulled over as soon as it was safe. A walk around the car revealed no problems, but looking at the top of the car showed that the glass over the sunroof had imploded. I'm not a fan of sunroofs and I
... may have never opened it. My favorite AI search engine Gemini had plenty of information. I experienced what is known as a spontaneous sunroof implosion/explosion. Fortunately, neither my passengers nor I was injured. Toyota is not accepting responsibility for these incidents.Read more

Three recalls have now been issued across four years Post-fix engines are still failing for the new tundra Toyota is still issuing new part numbers and design revisions for 2026 The NHTSA filing explicitly references engine configuration as a pressure driver No complete remedy exists for the second recall as of today The probability this is purely a manufacturing debris issue is effectively zero a
... t this point. As one insider on BobIsTheOilGuy summarized: "Toyota is not telling the public the entire extent of the issue because all vehicles with that engine are experiencing failures and because it's at least partly a design flaw issue — even the replacement motors will fail." BobIsTheOilGuy What Toyota has is a design that operates with insufficient margin at #1 main, which means it will continue to surface failures even in "clean" engines under the right combination of load, heat, and mileage — just at a lower rate than the heavily contaminated early production units. That's why there's no clean fix. You can't recall your way out of a physics problem. This is a engine defect. Toyota needs to buy back all these vehicles.Read more

2021 Highlander began with whining noise around May 15, 2026 and just outside the warranty. Had the vehicle inspected at the Toyota dealer for repair. They informed me the transmission failed and needs replaced for a price of $9600. Found on the internet that many folks are having the same transmission issue on several Toyotas made in 2021 with a UA80E or UA80F transmission. Toyota issued a Te
... chnical service bulletin (T-SB-0008-21) on FEBRUARY 9, 2021! We received no warning until the whining noise. We attempted a “goodwill case” to get Toyota to help pay but were denied for the simple reason we used our own mechanic. This has absolutely no effect on this transmission failure. Since Toyota was always aware of this issue I feel they should be held accountable. This is a major faulty product.Read more

The brakes have been overly sensitive... but then, without warning, braking power is completely lost. This has happened on 2 separate occasions... the pedal goes all the way to the floor and provides ZERO braking power. We can no longer trust this car on the road. Toyota sent someone to inspect the vehicle and they claim that they have found no problems or issues and that they have not been able

These symptoms occurred immediately after purchasing the car. Toyota refuses to purchased the car back from us, and now we are stuck with a very dangerous vehicle. Gas pedal hesitation at a rolling stop. There is a delay in acceleration during occasional rolling stops at locations such as yield signs and unmarked intersections on the roadway. When this happens the driver may depress the accelerator more than should be necessary causing tire spin and traction control integration. The traction control drastically reduces speed and limits acceleration which is
... a detriment to any oncoming traffic and everone else on the road. Many owners acknowledge this issue on social media. No warning lights. Toyota has a service bullitin out for this as of May 2026, but has limited vin numbers they will update for free. My truck has been an issue since purchased new in March 2023. It can be an intermittent issue and the dealer can't seam to duplicate it on inspection. Since they couldn't duplicate it the first time i complained about it, they want to charge for diagnosis. Toyota will not update the transmission module because my vin number isn't included and they can't duplicate it. This is a safety issue and all vin numbers should get the software update in my opinion. TSB0032-26 is toyotas service bulitin. Toyota told me they would only do it if it was a safety recall.Read more

On May 20, 2026, at approximately 14,600 miles, I discovered a stress fracture in the windshield of my 2025 Toyota Camry XSE immediately after going through an automated car wash. There were no prior warning signs, unusual sounds, or visible stress marks before the crack appeared. The crack originated at the driver's side edge where the glass meets the roofline at the bonded perimeter — a locat
... ion inconsistent with road debris or external impact damage, which typically produces an impact point in the field of the glass rather than at the bonded edge. The crack extended downward approximately 5-7 inches in an arc pattern. There was no impact event. The crack appeared spontaneously under the mechanical stress of a standard automated car wash on a nearly new vehicle. The crack subsequently spread and created a reflective arc that directed sunlight directly into my eyes while driving, creating a significant safety hazard and impairing my ability to drive safely. I filed an insurance claim through Progressive and had the windshield replaced with OEM Toyota glass by Safelite on June 3, 2026. Note: Within 24 hours of OEM replacement, a second windshield failure occurred on June 4, 2026 while driving through Utah on I-70. This second failure suggests a potential systemic defect in Toyota Camry windshield glass rather than isolated external damage. A separate NHTSA complaint will be filed for this second incident once replacement documentation is complete.Read more

Incident date: Dec 23, 2025
I am submitting this complaint to report an unexpected transmission shift event that occurred while operating my 2025 Toyota Prius at highway speed which created an immediate and obvious safety risk. The event occurred on XXX. While driving my Prius at approximately 75mph on Interstate [XXX], I reached toward the center console area to retrieve my sunglasses. I did not intentionally move the shift
... er, but the transmission suddenly shifted from Drive to Neutral. After moving from Drive to Neutral, the accelerator no longer provided propulsion. At the time, my vehicle was traveling downhill and was being followed by an eighteen-wheel tractor trailer. The truck driver behind me had no way of knowing that my vehicle had unexpectedly lost the ability to accelerate. To avoid being struck from behind, I steered left into a paved median area, applied the brakes, and was able to shift back to Drive and merge into the traffic flow. Had a paved escape area not been available, it seems inevitable that our chances of being in a fatal collision with the vehicle behind us would be quite high. My concern is that a normal driver movement (reaching for an item near the center console while driving) may inadvertently have caused the transmission to enter Neutral at highway speed resulting in the possibility of serious harm or fatality. I believe this presents an unacceptable safety hazard and warrants investigation. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

I have a 2024 Hybrid Toyota Tundra Equipped with V35-A- FTS 3.4 L Twin- Turbo V6. This motor is the same engine as the non hybrid motors included in the recall. The only reason this motor is not included in recall is Toyota saying that it not a safety issue because of the electrical motor is sufficient to get it off the road. June 3, 2026, approximately 5:30 PM EDT, I entered my 2025 Toyota Sienna to move it from the street beside my home, to my driveway. Upon closing the driver's door, the rear liftgate window exploded into the vehicle. This occurred without any warning or adverse action by myself or anyone else. The vehicle has been in no collisions, and has only 6429 miles on the odometer. I phoned Toyota's "Cust
... omer Experience Center" to report the incident and to seek warranty service for this problem. I was told to drive the vehicle to my Toyota Dealer, which is located 115 miles away, for inspection. I explained that it is unsafe to drive a vehicle filled with broken glass and with no rear window 115 miles. If I vacuum up the glass, there is nothing for the dealership technician to inspect. If I tape plastic over the opening, it could come loose at highway speed, and cause an accident, and the tape adhesive could damage the vehicle finish. The Toyota agent advised me that the vehicle must be inspected at a Toyota Dealership, and if the vehicle is unsafe to drive to the dealer, we could have it towed. But in a subsequent call to the "Customer Experience Center", my wife was informed that Toyota would not cover a tow of that distance in their warranty, and it was our fault for buying a car and taking it to an area that far from a dealer. The phone number we called is located inside the vehicle owner's manual cover under a heading, "If there is not a Toyota dealer near you, please call the following number:" In the morning, once they are open, I will call the nearest dealership, 115 miles distant, to seek further guidance. Based on my background in both mechanical engineering and automotive failure analysis, it is my opinion that the window and its support system was not designed to withstand the prolonged sun and heat exposure experienced. The outside temperature reached at least 82 degrees F where the vehicle was parked.Read more
